The festive racing continues at a strong pace on Monday, with four meetings to get stuck into. That includes Limerick and Leopardstown, who both host graded cards. The latter stages a pair of Grade 1 races, the Christmas Hurdle and Savills Chase.

We’ll have horse racing tips and ITV Racing tips for all of the top races as a new week kicks off! This article will be focusing on the horses who are making long treks to take up their Monday engagements.

Sending horses to faraway venues costs both time and money, so it’s certainly not taken lightly. We’ve found four who make plenty of appeal, and they can be found below!

11.50 Catterick – Goldencard (258 miles)

Finishing second on his last two starts, Goldencard has been banging on the door and a step up in distance could work the oracle today. He set the pace at Fakenham on his most recent start and despite being outpaced early, he stuck on gamely and was coming back in the closing stages.

An extra three furlongs in distance should help matters and he sits twenty-four pounds below his last winning mark over timber. Christian Williams has a 31% strike-rate (16/52) when sending his runners this far or further, so he commands plenty of respect.

4.05 Newcastle – Island Storm (278 miles)

Heather Main has a 23% strike-rate (26/112) when sending her runners on similar journeys and Island Storm looks to gain his first win of 2020 in the dying strides.

Both his victories thus far have come over course and distance, latterly in November 2019 off a ten-pound higher rating. It’s been downhill since, but his latest third at Kempton was a step in the right direction.

He sits on a dangerous mark and if building on that Kempton effort back at his beloved Newcastle, this rating won’t be a barrier to success.

6.35 Newcastle – Outrage (284 miles)

Making the 284-mile journey to Newcastle, Daniel & Claire Kubler’s Outrage makes the longest journey of the lot on Monday. The pair have a 29% strike-rate (4/14) when travelling at least this far with their horses, which makes his already big chance all the more fascinating.

He’s been running well without reward in 2020, putting in his best effort of the campaign when a neck second at Lingfield earlier this month. Just one-pound higher today, he remains extremely well-treated on past form and this four-time course and distance winner has excellent claims.
