11-1 ante-post tip for the 2021 Cheltenham Festival Foxhunters Chase

Scenic shot of the crowd at Cheltenham

Adrian Wall is back with his weekly Cheltenham Festival portfolio article. This week he is looking at the Foxhunters Chase, a race that may not be as high profile as others. However, it is in the top five most bet on races of the week surprisingly. Let’s take a closer look at the main protagonists in the field followed by our tip.

Billaway

Last year’s runner-up got back to winning ways in the Bluegrass Horse Feeds Hunters Chase at Down Royal in December. He is an incredibly consistent sort but when he does get beat, it is usually down to the flat spot he hits every time he runs.

An impeccable jumper, he is the deserved favourite for the contest. He was given a nice prep for this at Naas at the end of January where he ran out a nice winner. It will take a good performance to beat him.

It Came To Pass

Ran out a shock 66-1 winner of the race last season under the trainer’s daughter Maxine. Could have been backed at 350-1 to 400-1 in the morning. Went on to beat Billaway by ten lengths which was an incredible effort.

No such prices are available for him this year but he was given a nice prep for the race when fourth at Fairyhouse in November. He was 20 lengths off Billaway on that occasion so he will need to be back to his very best next month.

Tip: Staker Wallace

By the look of it, Enda Bolger won’t have a runner in the Cross Country Chase at the 2021 Cheltenham Festival for the first time in 17 years. However, he could have two strong contenders in the Foxhunters along with Stand Up And Fight.

Staker Wallace finished fourth behind It Came To Pass on his Cheltenham debut in 2020. The ten-year-old has since placed in two point-to-point contests before breaking his maiden tag in a Hunter Chase at Limerick. He could be a much improved animal this year and at 11-1, looks the horse to be on at the prices.
