The highlight of the year at the Cheshire track is the Chester May Festival, spread over three days from 8th May to the 10th May 2019. We will have previews with thoughts on every runner in all twenty-one races as well as tips and trends.
Opening up the three-day festival is City Day. Both trials at the track for the Oaks and Derby at Epsom respectively with the Cheshire Oaks the first of them, won in 2017 by superstar filly Enable. The Chester Vase for colts and geldings is the trial for the Derby where Ruler Of The World was the last horse to do the double in 2013.
Thursday is Ladies Day which has a Group 3 highlight of the Ormonde Stakes for horses aged four and older over a trip of a mile and five furlongs. The race has been graced with plenty of class in recent times as Harbinger was victorious before winning the King George in 2010 and St Nicholas Abbey won the following season before Coronation Cup and Breeders’ Cup triumphs.
Chester Cup Day ends the action on Friday with the big race over two and a quarter miles one of the most valuable staying handicaps of the season. As well as this, the Group 2 Huxley Stakes over a mile less makes for a great final day at the Cheshire venue.
Due to the unique, tight configuration of the racecourse, it’s always fascinating to watch how horses deal with the sharp turns and short straight of Chester.
