This is a competitive handicap over 6 furlongs, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.
IN SUMMARY: It may pay to keep things simple here and NOBLE DEED gets the vote. He finished second off this mark over C&D on his last start and he’s clearly in good form so he should be able to take advantage here with a few that have questions to answer. The booking of Silvestre De Sousa aboard Staffa is eye-catching whilst Rigolleto is weighted to win at any time.
MAD ENDEAVOUR – Well-backed on his second to last start last season when winning over 6 furlongs in a Class 5 handicap at Epsom. He’s 2lbs higher in the weights for that victory which leaves him on a career high mark which he was well-beaten off at Leicester on his final start of last year. He’s been comfortably held on both of his seasonal reappearances to date and he’s likely to require this run before hitting top form. Best watched for a yard without a winner from 16 runners at Lingfield.
RIGOLLETO – Without a victory since notching up a double over 6 furlongs last March at Kempton. One of those successes came over C&D which is a positive but he’s been terribly inconsistent since with placed efforts off much higher marks met with sizeable defeats subsequently. He was only beaten 4 1/4 lengths off a 1lb higher mark last time out and he is now 3lbs lower than his last winning mark but he’s an inconsistent horse and hard to predict.
NOBLE DEED – Just denied over C&D last time out when beaten a neck off this mark. He looks to be on a workable mark following that run and with conditions sure to suit, he’s a major threat again in this company with Adam Beschizza retaining the ride. The stable have struggled for winners lately (no wins from eleven runners) and stall 8 does make life tougher but he’s clearly in good form and is dangerous here.
PERFECT PASTIME – Well-beaten off a 3lb higher mark on his seasonal reappearance at Lingfield last month over 7 furlongs. He’s now 5lbs lower than his last winning mark and this trip looks right for him although he has yet to win over 6 furlongs at Lingfield. Stall 4 is perfect and Jim Boyle uses a 7lb claimer having her second ever ride at Lingfield today which could leave him on a decent weight.
BOOKMAKER – C&D winner who has been busy over the winter with 8 runs to his name since late December. He won off a mark of 52 over 7 furlongs here in January in the first time cheekpieces and they have been left on ever since. Jane Elliott retains the ride today claiming 7lbs but now off a mark of 57, he doesn’t look to have much in hand at the weights. He drops down in trip to 6 furlongs for the first time since August 2015.
ENCAPSULATED – Another inconsistent runner in this. He finished second of eight, beaten just 3/4 of a length at Kempton off this mark in March but then finished last of 12 off the same rating over the same C&D just a few weeks later. He remains on a mark of 57 which looks spot on from the handicapper although connections will feel another 1-2lbs would help their charge immensely. Stall 3 is perfect and he enters calculations here.
AUTUMN TONIC – Won a Class 6 handicap at Southwell in March off a 4lb lower mark and he has since transferred stables to the Charlie Wallis yard. He was beaten out of sight on his first run for new connections at Chelmsford over 5 furlongs and the handicapper was unmoved by that effort, leaving him on a mark of 56. 2 wins from 26 career starts does little to inspire enthusiasm and the stable have sent out just 1 winner from 31 runners at Lingfield. Opposed today.
STAFFA – Lightly-raced sort who finished fifth of eleven, beaten just 2 lengths on his handicap debut last month. He’s switched to Lingfield for the first time today and kept over 6 furlongs which looks ideal and this is a weaker contest than his last run at Kempton. Silvestre De Sousa is an eye-catching booking (24% strike rate in the past fortnight) and he has to enter calculations with more to come off this mark. Chances here.
