There’s plenty happening on Sunday, with a full ITV card up at Hamilton and Royal Ascot trials at Naas over in Ireland. We’ve got you covered so here are some of the day’s more intriguing angles, including why Ryan Moore is the jockey to follow at Naas. Charles Darwin was a runaway winner of the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot last season and it’s unfortunate that we didn’t see him after that. Returning with victory in a Listed contest last month, he hasn’t lost any of his ability and he looks very well set to win at Naas before following up in the Commonwealth Cup. The price will go if he wins here so now might be the time.
Naas has been a happy hunting ground for Ryan Moore so far this season, who has five winners from eight previous rides, and he has another excellent book of rides to look forward to on Sunday, including our Nap of the day.
Last time out winner Shaftesbury Avenue has every chance of following up in the opener but stablemates Port Ferdinand and Accredited look like the biggest dangers.
New Yorker will need to settle much better than he did at the Curragh last time out but that would have been a good learning experience and better is expected on this occasion.
Expanded should be hard to beat in the Owenstown Stud Stakes and he rides the very promising Victorious in a juvenile Group 3. The aforementioned Charles Darwin should win his race easily and Mission Central can run another big race in the closing Listed contest.
It’s a 740-mile round trip to Hamilton from Tom Dascombe’s Lambourn yard and with the current fuel prices, it’ll be an expensive one. Marcellinus managed to get off the mark last time out and it would be no surprise if he manages to follow up.
William Haggas sends a couple of runners from Newmarket, both of which have big chances. Valiancy was consistent last term and there could be more to come from him, whilst the lightly raced Seren Star has a similar profile.
