Neil Mulholland sends one runner on a 712-mile round trip to Kelso on Thursday

Horse racing is in Liam's blood and his biggest passion is jumps racing. He can often be found at his favourite tracks; Chepstow and Cheltenham in the Autumn when the National Hunt action kicks off. In his own words: "I'm often referred to as a walking form book, a trait which comes in handy from time to time. Simply getting a horse to the races is an expensive endeavour these days so it’s usually worth highlighting when a horse is sent on a particularly long journey.

It’s even more relevant when it’s a rare occasion and Somerset-based trainer Neil Mulholland is sending a runner up to Kelso for just the second time this season on Thursday.

3.10 Kelso

Miss Carbo had two starts for Artus Adeline De Boisbrunet in her native France and she was a nose away from getting off the mark when second on debut at Nimes. She also went on to finish second at Dax after that, before filling the same spot once again on her British debut at Warwick in December.

Mulholland decided to step her up in grade next time and she contested a Listed contest but could only manage fifth on that occasion. Well beaten on her next couple of starts too, she made the switch to handicaps at Hexham last month and managed to get off the mark.

The step up in trip seemed to help and she saw the extended 2m3f out well to score by five lengths. That recent success has incurred a 7lb penalty but it’s likely that she has more to give in handicap company and provided this run hasn’t come too soon, a follow up success could well be on the cards.
