Racing TV Club Day Mares' Handicap Hurdle (Class 5)
Miss Carbo silk

Miss Carbo

Analysis
1/1

Neil Mulholland doesn’t send runners up to Kelso too often but he launched a successful raid at Hexham with Miss Carbo recently and she looks capable of defying a 7lb penalty on the evidence of that comfortable five-length success on handicap debut.

Racing TV Profits Returned To Racing Handicap Chase (Class 5)
Burgundy Man silk

Burgundy Man

Analysis
9/2

Burgundy Man was winless in 20 starts over hurdles but managed to get off the mark at the first time of asking over fences at Perth in October. This is his first start since and provided he’s sharp enough for this excursion, there should be more to come over the larger obstacles.

Guet Apens silk

Guet Apens

Analysis
2/1

The thoroughly unexposed Guet Apens won a couple of times on the Flat in France and was a fair third after a long absence on stable debut over hurdles at Musselburgh. He stepped forward when winning a novice event easily next time and 103 is a generous opening handicap mark.

Always A Reason silk

Always A Reason

Analysis
9/4

Always A Reason has taken well to fences and managed to win a couple of low grade races at Newcastle and Catterick over the winter. He was last seen finishing second to a Dan Skelton horse in a Class 2 event here in March and a repeat performance will put him bang in the mix.

Tips for Kelso Races

Voted the Best Small Course in Scotland and the North of England in 2007, 2012 and 2014, Kelso is a popular National Hunt track amongst racegoers. Opened in 1822, the original building is still there today with coal fires creating a unique and warm atmosphere.

Course: The hurdles track is tighter than the chase equivalent as it’s slightly shorter in length. Neither are of galloping nature which suits speedy horses for our tips. But the ground can get heavy which blunts speed, in this instance stamina will come into play much more.

Feature Race: The Premier Kelso Novices’ Hurdle is a Grade 2 event that we have tips for in early March. Winners of this will often go on to race at Aintree’s Grand National Festival, with Le Prezien and Mount Mews recent examples.
