We had a massive upset in the Sussex Stakes on Wednesday with a 150/1 winner and there’s plenty of opportunities for an each-way play at Goodwood on Friday. The first five races will be live on ITV so we’ve picked out three horses that could be a little overpriced.
They include a 25/1 shot in the big race of the day, the Group 2 King George Qatar Stakes. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Zinc White (12/1, Betfred) won the Chester Plate fairly easily off a 1lb lower mark in 2023 and that form all but confirms his stamina. It was a decent enough effort when fifth here behind Aggagio last month and he looked a little outpaced over that shorter trip. The extended 2m4f could bring out the best in him and he’s more than capable of running a big race.
Blue For You (20/1, bet365) has been a little out of form so far this season but the handicapper has responded accordingly. His last success came off a 3lb higher mark in a decent race at York last summer and a reproduction of that form would give the seven-year-old every chance. Trainer David O’Meara won this race back in 2022 and knows what he’s doing in these big handicaps.
Celandine (25/1, bet365) was a useful juvenile last term and managed to beat the subsequent Commonwealth Cup winner Time For Sandals in the Lowther Stakes last season. A fair fourth in the Molecomb here last season, there could be more to come over the minimum trip. Ed Walker’s filly gets all the allowances here and don’t let the price put you off.
