Andrew Balding sends one runner on the 610-mile round trip to Newcastle

Andrew Balding’s Hampshire yard is unsurprisingly pretty far away from Newcastle, yet he’s set to send just one runner up there on Thursday. The fuel alone is sure to be pretty expensive and you would imagine connections won’t want to come home empty-handed.

It’s a 610-mile round trip and the horse in question is set to make his debut for this yard. With this in mind, we’ve taken a detailed look at the horse’s chances below. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

3.20 Newcastle

White Crown Star joined this yard last month, having made two starts for the retiring Sir Michael Stoute. This smartly bred colt cost 200,000 guineas but was a little disappointing on debut in a Newmarket maiden in July. It’s worth noting that the form has worked out particularly well however, with the first six home all winning since.

The son of Sea The Stars appeared to need the experience and it was an improved display from him when third at Yarmouth next time. A stablemate came out on top that day and he would have finished closer if settling better in the early stages.

Further progress seems likely and if he doesn’t win here, he could be one for handicaps further down the line. That being said, he brings some of the best form to the table and could well get off the mark.

There are a couple of interesting debutants in opposition here, including Roger Varian’s Yaa Min and George Boughey’s Edge Ofthe Unknown. Haydock maiden winner One Eye Jack will be looking to get back on track, whilst Fort George Should improve from his debut.
