Our tipsters' strongest bets for this meeting

Betway Live Casino Handicap (Class 2)
Loud And Clear silk

Loud And Clear

Stargazer was a winner of a conditions race over today’s course and distance last time out and should run his race once again today. At the opposite end of the weights, however, preference is for the Jim Goldie trained LOUD AND CLEAR. This progressive eight-year-old has form figures of 1211 at this venue, and although he is now running from a career-high flat mark he should have improvement still to come.

Trevithick silk

TREVITHICK was a course and distance winner last time out and a two pounds rise is far from excessive considering he looks less exposed than most in this line-up. He is backed to gain the follow-up success today at the expense of Rey Loopy, who saves his best form for this venue.

17:15 Handicap (Class 2)

Pinnata has been in good heart of late but his only previous run over this trip was a modest one. He is also facing some smart rivals here in Straight Right and LUCYMAI. The former is a previous course and distance winner who found the muddling pace against him at Lingfield last time out. He should do better today, but the vote goes to Dean Ivory’s charge. A seven-time winner on synthetics, she ran better than the bare form suggests in a conditions race at Wolverhampton earlier this month, and is now back down to her last winning handicap mark.

Betway Conditions Stakes (All-Weather Championships Fast-Track Qualifier) (Class 2)
Encore D'Or silk

Encore D'Or

Tropics was a winner at Chelmsford last time out, but he usually saves his best form for that track now. ENCORE D’OR was progressive in turf handicaps at the back end of last season, and he made an excellent return to synthetics when second in a Group 3 at Dundalk in October. If returning from a break in anywhere near that level of form, he should prove a class above these rivals. Stone Of Destiny was fourth in the Commonwealth Cup last year and has winning form at this venue, he looks the strongest forecast option.

Betway Sprint Handicap (Class 4)
Foxy Forever silk

Foxy Forever

FOXY FOREVER runs for Michael Wigham who has two wins from his last five runners. Today’s runner was last seen a month ago placing in a far more competitive race than this, for which he is just a pound higher. He has only finished out of the first three in one of his ten Tapeta starts, and looks sure to go very close in this far easier race. Fendale has an absence to overcome, however he is a classy handicapper at his best and ran well on his sole All-Weather start. A close-up fifth in a better race last-time, Primo’s Comet is another who looks sure to get involved.

Ladbrokes Novice Stakes (Class 5)
Havana Rocket silk

Havana Rocket

Solar Park made a pleasing debut three-weeks ago over course and distance and should be more than capable of figuring, however he should prove vulnerable to Andrew Balding’s HAVANA ROCKET (NB). A recent wind-op and the switch to the All-Weather are further positives for this colt who has shown some solid form on turf so far. The drop back to seven is ideal, and considering that he was last seen within three-lengths of a rival now rated 97, he should prove hard to beat for a yard in flying form.

Follow Sunracing On Twitter Handicap (Class 5)

A competitive race in which preference is for BRIYOUNI. He has been put up thirteen-pounds for a couple of victories, however judged on his latest victory, ahead of one who has followed up since, he has room even off this mark. He posted an RPR of 76 on his sole run at this track, an even better effort than his most recent win, and if doing something similar today he would be hard to beat. Dirchill was narrowly behind Harvest Day last-time, however he’s a pound better off now and has been running well at this venue of late in more competitive races. He can chase the selection home.

Betway Casino Handicap (Class 6)
Rizzle Dizzle silk

Rizzle Dizzle

A reasonably competitive race for the grade in which an each-way selection looks the smartest move. RIZZLE DIZZLE was a little disappointing for Karl Burke, however she ran well for a long-way in a stronger race on stable debut. She’s been put down four-pounds for that, now running off a very dangerous mark considering that she was placed on Tapeta over six in 2017, posting an RPR of 76. She is taken to continue her progression for her new yard, and go very well indeed. Duke Cosimo was ahead of a couple of these last-time, when narrowly denied. He’s been put up three-pounds, however he shouldn’t be far away, and Epeius saves his best for this venue and can be forgiven a poor run on Fibresand last-time.

Tips for Newcastle Races

Situated at Gosforth Park near Newcastle upon Tyne, the flat course used to be turf but was transformed into an All-Weather track in 2016 and hosted it’s first fixture on the 17th May of that year.

Surface: Similar to Wolverhampton, Newcastle has a Tapeta surface and experience on it is a plus so we consider this when selecting our tips.

Course: It’s the only All-Weather venue in the country with a straight mile and combining that with it’s width, it is very much a galloping track that takes plenty of getting. Generally it’s very fair with regards to track position and there is no harm in coming from the back of the pack.

Draw Bias: A fair track with no great draw bias for our tips to consider, although in races over 1 mile 2 furlongs and further you don’t want to be caught too wide around the long, sweeping bend.

Feature Race: The Northumberland Plate (also popularly known as the ‘Pitmen’s Derby’) takes place in June each year and is one of the richest 2 mile handicaps in the world, with a £150,000 purse in 2018.
