Northern Ireland-based trainer Colin McBratney is well able to train a big-priced winner, and it has to be hugely interesting that the handler will send one horse on the 500-mile round trip to Newcastle Racecourse on Sunday. Let’s take a look at the horse in more detail below, but you can also find all of our free horse racing tips on the website too.
The standard Class 6 handicap over the extended two miles has an extra layer of interest now as Colin McBratney’s Irish raider Mille Miglia has been declared to take her chance in the contest. Connections surely wouldn’t be sending the mare all the way to Newcastle unless they thought she had a reasonable chance given the costs involved for transportation and the rest.
McBratney has only trained a single winner since the start of the 2022/23 season, and is certainly struggling at present, but one good winner at a price could keep a small trainer in business so a market watch will certainly be needed for this mare.
Mille Miglia’s form doesn’t inspire much confidence and she has been well beaten on pretty much every start for the yard. That said, she has dropped to a really low mark of just 50, and she was rated 73 when she left the Clive Cox stable in January 2023. Clearly, if she can find her best form, she is absolutely chucked in here, and the booking of Oisin Orr is another big plus.
She may well be well beaten but if she is ever going to win a race again, she probably won’t find a better opportunity that this back up markedly in trip.
