There’s a substantial gamble underway at Yarmouth on Thursday as one runner in particular has been the subject of sustained market support. The horse in question was available at 33-1 on Wednesday evening but continued market interest has seen its price slashed. Now available at just 8-1, Ed Dunlop trains the once-raced juvenile and it’s a fascinating move. You can check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Manos Arriba is the horse in question and he made his debut over 6f at Windsor earlier this month. Not a lot went right on the day and he was severely hampered by a very slow start under Hollie Doyle. He made some headway in the final couple of furlongs but had clearly wasted too much gas whilst catching up. All things considered, that run can probably be forgiven and he would have learnt plenty from the experience.
Ed Dunlop’s charge goes markedly up in trip to a mile here, which is significant for a two-year-old. That could prove to be a wise move as it reduces the chances off him getting left behind at the start again. Out of a 7f winner, there’s also some 1m2f form in the pedigree. The step up in trip looks like a positive but he will still need to find some improvement to win here.
Francesco Baracca is the race favourite and justifiably so, Eve Johnson Houghton’s gelding finished second on debut at Kempton. Manos Arriba is one of only two other runners to have previous experience and that could give him an advantage over most. The market is expecting him to improve significantly on his second start here and he’s entitled to do so.
