Exeter have a seven-race card on Tuesday and the ground is currently heavy. It’s going to be hard work out there as Exeter can get very testing when heavy. With this in mind, we’ve picked out four horses with proven records on heavy ground. These horses should cope with the tough conditions better than most which will give them an advantage. Kepagge (9-2, William Hill) is the only horse in this race to have won on heavy ground. That has to give him a huge advantage going into this. He has a 5o per cent record on heavy, winning two of his four starts. It was a much improved effort on soft ground in a competitive race at Ffos Las last time out and shaped as if the extra three furlongs here would suit. Now down to a very competitive mark and this is a cracking opportunity.
Rose Of Arcadia (5-4, William Hill) has a 100 per cent record on heavy ground, winning both of her starts. She has been revitalised by a spell in point-to-points and has returned to form in a big way. A winner of two of her three starts so far this season, she was dominant when picking up her first chase win at Fontwell. Only 5lb higher now and there should be plenty more to come from this mare.
Raddon Top (7-2, William Hill) has two major stats in his favour here. Not only has he finished first and third in his two starts on heavy ground, he also is a course specialist at Exeter. Ran well when a three-length third over course and distance last time out and a repeat of that effort would see him go very close off the same mark.
Mack The Man (6-1, William Hill) is one of only two horses in the field to have won on heavy ground. His two wins on heavy ground equates to 50 per cent of his career wins over hurdles. Clearly a lover of mud, he looks well set to cope with the conditions much better than most of the field. Having won over course and distance off 127 in November 2021, winning here off 118 should be a distinct possibility.
