The spotlight is on Kempton as 33-1 shot slashed into 16-1 on Monday 🤯

Embour wins at Kempton under Martin Dwyer

There’s a massive gamble underway at Kempton on Monday morning. One runner was available at 33-1 last night and its price has been collapsing throughout the morning. The horse in question is now available at 16-1 but is as short as 12-1 with one bookie. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out as it’s a surprise that this horse has become the subject of such a substantial move. 1.30 Kempton

The Spotlight Kid is the subject of the big gamble on Monday. Dean Ivory’s gelding is one of the least exposed runners in the field with just five starts to his name. He didn’t make the track for Mick Channon before being transferred to the Ivory yard and has only been racing since April.

Having not shown a great deal in three starts in maiden and novice company, it seems as if handicaps will be much more suitable. His handicap debut over course and distance two starts ago showed plenty of promise and suggested he would eventually be capable of winning at this level. Finishing fourth off an opening mark of 63 was a reasonable effort and he was beaten by less than two lengths.

The Lingfield run last time out was a disappointment when a well beaten seventh as it was regressive. Both of his best runs have come here at Kempton however, which offers hope that he can put in a better performance this time round.
