Owen’s Outsiders! 40/1 and 25/1 Selections (13th July)

What a weekend of action we’ve witnessed, with Newmarket’s July Festival and York’s Dante meeting providing us with non-stop high-class racing. It was firsts all around in the July Cup, as Roger Teal and Cieren Fallon Jr claimed their first Group 1 races!

Pinatubo was back to his glorious best too, as he claimed the Prix Jean Prat at Deauville on his return to seven furlongs. There’s plenty to look forward to next weekend as well, as we build up to Irish Oaks at the Curragh.

With a 40/1 winner and 66/1 place for the Outsider’s series last week, finger’s crossed we can have more success as I dive into Monday’s racecard trying to find some lively big-priced fancies to clear up those Monday blues!

2.10pm Windsor – Pinatta (25/1)

With a record at Class 4 level reading 30117, there is plenty of optimism that the ease in grade can pay dividends for Pinatta. He gained his last victory at Class 3 level back in February off a mark of 90 on the All-Weather, with his lower turf mark enabling him to race off just 79 today.

He ran flat on return at Newmarket in June, but he could have been expected to need that and he’s now dropped to a very dangerous rating, second in a higher grade at Sandown last September off a pound higher. With conditions to suit, he looks sure to out-run his lofty odds.

2.20pm Ayr – Dandy’s Angel (40/1)

After just four starts, it’s very fair to assume that we haven’t seen the best from Dandy’s Angel. She showed ability in her three opening runs, including a pair of third-place finishes over the six-furlong distance. She was disappointing on handicap debut, but that was also her seasonal reappearance and she can be expected to improve for that.

She’s now four pounds lower and drops in grade, which can only help matters. Stepping up to seven furlongs is another big positive for her chances and given the lack of winning form in the field, she looks to have an obvious chance to out-run her odds for the John Wainwright team.

6.45pm Kempton – Moosmee (40/1)

It’s still very early days for Moosmee, who showed plenty of ability in four starts for William Haggas in late 2019, including a victory at Nottingham. He was making his handicap, seasonal and stable debut when a promising eighth at Lingfield last month, where he was never able to get on terms after being too keen early before staying on too late.

He’s now two pounds lower and should have benefitted a huge amount from that effort. Dropping back to seven furlongs is another positive and Kempton’s long straight should play to his strengths. Harry Bentley takes over and there is plenty to like about his chances at huge odds.
