A field of eight go to post for this interesting selling race at Catterick on Wednesday afternoon, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.
IN SUMMARY: Placebo Effect won easily in a seller at Ripon on Saturday and Shovel It On is interesting upped in trip, but this can go to MISS MAZZIE. She finally showed ability at the third time of asking when sixth at Catterick on her latest start and despite being outpaced the entire way, she was only beaten around three lengths. She should be much happier upped to seven furlongs and the softer conditions should help her also. Nathan Evans takes the ride for Tim Easterby and she looks the one to side with on this occasion.
PLACEBO EFFECT – Showed small amount of ability in four runs for Ollie Pears before getting off the mark at the fifth attempt in a seller at Ripon four days ago, forging clear late on by three lengths. This step up in trip should suit and the Ollie Pears yard is in brilliant form, with the softer conditions perfect for him under Andrew Mullen. He looks rock solid contender in a race full of unknowns has to be respected.
HEAVENLY PULSE – Six runs thus far for Ann Duffield and she has a rating of 41 after being beaten twelve lengths or more on all of her starts. She showed almost nothing at Ripon when last seen behind Placebo effect and is impossible to fancy despite a six pound pull in the weights.
MR CARBONATOR – Twice raced son of Bated Breath who has shown very limited ability for Richard Fahey thus far, well beaten on debut at Wolverhampton before another poor run in a seller at York when last seen. That said, this is a much easier race and he’s been gelded since his latest run, with this step up in trip likely to be in his favour. Far more needed under Paul Hanagan but that cannot be discounted and money for him would be interesting.
ONE DRUNKEN NIGHT – Made his debut at Goodwood in June for Gay Kelleway, immediately put into selling company which was a tad disconcerting. he was well beaten that day finding little for pressure and he needs to find a huge amount of improvement to feature in this. His pedigree suggests he is likely to be quite a modest sort and he should do better once he’s pitched into handicaps in due course.
SHOVEL IT ON – Showed ability at a modest level on all four of his starts for David Evans, running as well as could be expected in a nursery at Haydock when last seen. He’s now down in class and upped in trip which does make him interesting, as he kept on well late in the day and his pedigree suggests he should be all the better for the step up in distance. PJ McDonald takes the ride for an in form yard and he looks to be one of the main players, especially as his dam had winning form on slower ground.
MISS MAZZIE – Showed no ability in two runs for Michael Easterby before finally showing some spark when sixth at Catterick when last seen, outpaced for most the way but keeping on well enough. There is a very good chance she will build on that upped to seven furlongs and the slower ground looks likely to help her also. Nathan Evans takes the ride and she looks set to break her maiden at the fourth time of asking.
PEARL’S CALLING – Ran with some promise on debut at Doncaster, finishing fifth after being keen early on but she showed no improvement when well beaten at Beverley when last seen. She was always towards the rear and it’s hard to see her threatening in this contest unless she shows marked improvement for David Barron. Ben Curtis takes the ride but she’s likely to be a lower grade handicap prospect after this run.
SOCIETY’S DREAM – Has shown some promise in plating company the last twice for Karl Burke, last seen at Beverley where she finished a keeping on third over the five furlong distance. She should now have more to offer up in trip with the in form Joe Fanning taking the ride, though softer ground is a complete unknown. Possible each way player and needs to be considered.
