5.40pm Bath Tips & Preview – myracing Meeting 01/05/2017

IN SUMMARY: A competitive Classified Stakes to finish off our sponsored Bank Holiday meeting, with every horse rated within three pounds. Our tip is SPIRITOFEDINBURGH for Brendan Powell, who can build on a career best performance at Lingfield last month on his return from his winter break. Now gelded, he holds the highest handicap rating in this field and can improve with that run under his belt. I’vegotthepower is lightly raced and should challenge if the first time visor has a positive effect.

1 Challow – The most exposed horse in the field with ten runs so far, he remains a maiden, boasting just two second place finishes. Well beaten on the All Weather on his last two starts, he should perform on the fast turf going but he has less unlocked potential than a number of others here and is vulnerable to improvers.

2 Elusive Olivia – One of just two previous winners in the field, that win – along with her other two starts – have come on the All Weather and this will be her turf debut. A €28,000 purchase in May, she was weak in the market when finishing fourth off a mark of 69 last time out. The form of her Newcastle win doesn’t look particularly strong but the switch to turf may unlock more ability and she is to be respected.

3 I’vegotthepower – Finished third here in a maiden back in September, but was well beaten that day. His seasonal reappearance was promising but he found himself outpaced by some quicker types before staying on  and the drop back in trip makes him vulnerable. First time visor now reached for and both jockey and trainer are in good form so should run well.

4 Mutineer – Lightly raced and related to a number of classy winners, he improved with each start last season, having been sent off at long odds each time. This will be his first run since December and entitled to improve for it, but needs to settle better to win a race like this.

5 Ocean Promise – She showed fair consistency during five runs on the All Weather over the winter, rarely beaten far but never managing to get her head in front. Unsold for $130,000 at the Keeneland sales in September 2015, her pedigree suggests there may be more to come but she was comfortably beaten off marks of 70 and 68 in January and is up against it here.

6 Pacofilha – Showed promise in August when finishing third at Goodwood behind a next time out winner, but remains a maiden after seven starts over various trips. The drop back to one mile should suit her on her first start for over six months but her progression appears to have stalled and untested on this faster ground.

7 Raj Balaraaj – The only last time out winner in the field, that victory came on handicap debut off a mark of 64. Boasts previous course experience when finishing 2.75 lengths behind I’vegotthepower here in September, but looked stretched over the mile ttrip that day. Well beaten on his only attempt on ground faster than Good to Soft, he is another returning from a long break and one to watch in the market.

8 Spiritofedinburgh – Our tip for this race, he remains a maiden after six starts but has run well a number of times in defeat including when third on Good to Firm at Leicester in May and when third behind two promising horses at Kempton on his final start as a two-year-old. Gelded over the winter, he ran well when finishing a close third at Lingfield, and that run should bring him closer to full race fitness. The best horse in the race on handicap ratings, jockey Kieran Shoemark claims a useful three pounds, and is in fine form having ridden two winners from his last three rides.

2 Elusive Olivia.
