7.00pm Newcastle Tips & Betting Preview 25/10/2016

A Class 6 handicap over Newcastle’s straight mile, 14 runners but one who looks to maintain a perfect record over C&D.  Read on for our experts’ betting tips and horse-by-horse race preview.

IN SUMMARY: Moderate fare but with a 2/2 record over C&D and able to drop in grade, TOTALLY MAGIC could take plenty of stopping.  Bryght Boy looks a clear 2nd best with this stiffer track likely to show him in a better light but he has burnt plenty of fingers already this season as a beaten favourite.  The interesting one at a price on handicap debut is You’ll Do, his opening mark looks fair while his runs to gain this mark have been over trips that look to have stretched his stamina and he is a viable each way player at a double figure price.

1 Totally Magic – 2/2 over C&D having made all the running 11 days ago.  Both wins came at Class 5 level and with just a four pound rise for her most recent win (which looks on the lenient side) she can actually drop down to a Class 6 here.  She won both starts from close to the pace which isn’t easy to do on the new Tapeta surface and with no regular front runner in opposition, she looks set to make it 3/3 here.

2 Broctune Papa Gio – An experienced old hand whose seven flat wins have all come up a straight course.  He has been running off similar marks to this for the past couple of years, with a sound third in a C&D seller three starts ago.  He is likely vulnerable to younger legs now but a place would not be out of the question.

3 La Havrese – 5th behind Totally Magic here when unsuited by the way the race was run.  Both her all weather wins have come on the Tapeta surface at Wolverhampton but over 9.5f and unless they go hard up front, she may get tapped for toe at a crucial stage.

4 Whitkirk – Had a good spell at the start of summer, with a Hamilton win and a pair of placed efforts at Thirsk.  This is his Tapeta debut and has not been seen since a poor run at Musselburgh at the start of September so a market check is useful for his expectations.

5 Testa Rossa – A consistent type for Jim Goldie, but the majority of his form has come over longer trips.  He ran well over 10f at this track last time but doesn’t strike as one to improve for quarter of a mile less while all his handicap wins have come from marks in the 50’s, he runs off 62 here.

6 You’ll Do – Has run three times over longer trips to gain a mark of 65 with a drop to a mile likely to suit on pedigree.  His Ayr run in June when less than 8 lengths behind the now rated 95 Knight’s Table is a clear form best with a front running effort over further the following month best forgotten.  Likely to be seen in a better light now handicapping, he could be an each way play at a big price.

7 Bryght Boy – Sent off favourite three times in his five handicap starts so far, he has looked to lack tactical speed before staying on.  This is the stiffest of the all weather tracks and as the sole raider from Newmarket for Ed Walker, he should be strongly considered.

8 Arcane Dancer – 3rd to Totally Magic over C&D last time when staying on all the way to the line.  She has won over a mile on the all weather at Southwell and has a pair of Beverley wins on the uphill finish so a test of stamina clearly suits her at this trip, she would be a player if they go too quick in front.

9 Im Dapper Too – Showed an excellent attitude to win at Carlisle last month, digging deep when challenged.  That has pushed him to a career high mark however and his 4 runs on the all weather so far have not been as good as his turf efforts though they have all been on Southwell’s Fibresand.

10 Jonofark – Has shown glimmers of promise in a couple of maiden starts.  A mark of 63 looks fair enough on handicap debut but it is debatable whether a step down to a mile is what he needs to get off the mark.

11 Marcle – Just a single win from 17 career starts but that came from this mark on the Tapeta surface at Wolverhampton.  Ran well again at that track in first time cheekpieces but a pair of poor efforts since leave him with a little to prove.

12 Charles De Mille – Won at Newcastle on turf in 2014 and at Nottingham earlier this year on his seasonal return but this is his all weather debut at the age of 8.  He is off a workable mark if putting his best foot forward but his most recent runs have been some way below his best.

13 She’s Electric – Sole win came last season over 6f off a mark of 65 but inconsistency since has seen her mark drop down to 60.  She would have a chance on her best but 3 starts in cheekpieces have been poor so plenty to prove.

14 Haidees Reflection – Won at Ayr on her seasonal return but has failed to come close to that level of form since.  Tends to compromise her chance with slow starts and despite being well handicapped would be difficult to support with any confidence at present.
