6.45pm Epsom Tips & Betting Preview 13/07/2016

The evening racing at Epsom promises to be a good night of action and the 6:45 will prove no different. Our race preview singles out a horse who can step up on previous efforts to defy the short priced favorite. See our betting tips below.

IN SUMMARY: Alyssa will rightly be favourite for the champion jockey Silvestre De Sousa after a run of good, consistent results. However, it might be worth taking a chance on MACHINE LEARNER at bigger odds.  Michael Bell’s runner has been going okay of late and now tries the visor as the cheekpieces are thrown away. If he can lean on some of his efforts from last year he will tough to peg back and is selected to do just that. If the cheekpieces work for Bushel he could well run into the places.

1 JOHN BISCUIT – Very poor hurdler at this stage in his career at the minimum distances and although he has posted some great efforts on the flat in 2013, it is unlikely that he will be up to doing the same 3 years on, look elsewhere.

2 SIXTIES LOVE – Posted some good results on the AW last year, notably at Chelmsford over this distance back in November (12f, AW). However she has regressed since then and isn’t showing any signs of staging a revival. Very unlikely winner and percentage call says stay well clear.

3 BUSHEL – Form of late doesn’t really inspire much confidence, most recently when flopping at Newbury (11f, Soft). However he has posted some reasonable efforts this year, the best of which coming over this distance at Salisbury (12f, Good to Firm) and can’t be ruled out of this. Connections reach for the cheekpieces which suggest they haven’t given up just yet, has to be shortlisted.

4 ALYSSA – Very consistent 2 year old on Good to Soft ground over a mile at Ascot and Newbury, finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively, however, she isn’t progressing as much as you would have thought she would. This year she’s posted two very similar efforts, the first when finishing 3rd at Kempton (12f, AW) and then removing the maiden tag at Wolverhampton latest (12f, AW). Lightly raced compared to the other 3yo’s in the field so has time on her side and will be fighting out for the win, but does need to show us signs of progression.

5 MACHINE LEARNER – Cheekpieces now dispensed with by connections after an average 3rd at Newcastle latest (12.5f, AW) and although he’s posted some dubious form on the turf, the majority of his efforts are very solid and is weighted well enough to feature heavily. Michael Bell’s runners are flying at the moment, and he has top claiming jockey Edward Greatrex at the helm, will be hard to beat if on-song.

6 DELLBUOY – Decent 2nd at Brighton on penultimate start (12f, Good to Soft) but followed that up with a woeful performance over C&D latest (12f, Good to Soft). Needs to stage a big revival to take this and it’s unlikely that today will be the day for the 7yo gelding.

7 FISHERGATE – 3yo who seems to be best suited when the ground is softer, evidenced when coming back to form finishing 2nd at Leicester in dire conditions (12f, Heavy). That was a good effort and connections now reach for the headgear for the first time, however the majority of these good efforts were on softer ground, although his only win came at Ripon on the good ground over 6f as a 2yo. With forecast good ground it seems unlikely he will get the conditions that he probably wants, and is tricky to recommend on these terms, likely to be on the premises however.
