6.30pm Newcastle Tips & Betting Preview 25/10/2016

The feature race on Tuesday’s Newcastle card is a Class 2 nursery over 5f. Read on for our horse-by-horse race preview and our experts’ betting tips.

IN SUMMARY: This good-quality nursery looks very open but, with a host of potential front-runners in the line-up, it could pay to focus on those likely to be ridden patiently. BAY STATION took too keen a hold and finished down the field in her first nursery but she can fare better if more settled in the early stages here and the strong finish she displayed when scoring at Beverley on her debut makes her of interest. At around 25/1, she looks grossly overpriced. Lomu was 2-2 in the spring and could also have this race run to suit but it’s tricky to gauge how much progress he’s made since last in action 165 days ago. Poet’s Society and Coolfitch come here in good form and also have major roles to play.

1 Poet’s Society – Gained his first two wins in C&D novice events and returns here after making all in a 6f Chelmsford nursery last month; subsequent 5lb rise is likely to make things tough but there’s every chance he’ll make a bold bid from the front.

2 Lomu – Unbeaten after two starts, gaining both his wins in 5f novice events on turf in the spring; makes nursery/AW debut after a 165-day break and ideally needs to learn to settle better in the early stages, but it’s impossible to rule out further improvement.

3 Coolfitch – Was beginning to look exposed after ten turf starts but evidently well suited by the switch to Tapeta when clear second at Wolverhampton (5f) a fortnight ago; likely to give another good account here but latest 5lb rise might prove tough to swallow.

4 Prince Of Cool – Yet to make the progress that will have been hoped for after winning debut at Haydock (5f, good to firm) in May but ran well from the front when second in a Chelmsford nursery (5f, AW) last month and, despite a 1lb nudge up the weights for that, enters calculations here.

5 Harome – Gained both his wins for David Loughnane at Hamilton, more recently when making all in quite valuable 6f nursery in late August; also ran well when fourth at Chester (5.5f, good to soft) last month and could have a say now switched to Tapeta for new stable.

6 Twizzell – Created good impression when clearcut winner for Ann Duffield on debut at Beverley (5f, good) in May but been comfortably held in both nurseries (6f/5f) since joining Karl Burke in the summer; not written off just yet but others have less to prove; AW debut today.

7 White Royale – Improved upon low-key debut when making all over 6f here in June; not seen again since then and drop back in trip for today’s nursery debut not an obvious move, but has obvious potential to make further progress in nurseries.

8 Ventura Secret – Readily excused his defeat in the Two-Year-Old Trophy at Redcar this month and returns to handicap company on a realistic mark but his overall record is rather unconvincing and it’s worrying that he was soundly beaten over C&D on his sole previous AW start.

9 Bay Station – Finished strongly from off the pace to cause 33/1 surprise on debut at Beverley (5f, good to firm) in August; well beaten after refusing to settle in a Musselburgh nursery last month, so has a point to prove after that, but there’s a good chance this race will be run to suit her.

10 Spin Doctor – Made very promising start to her career in the spring but seems to have lost her way in recent months and never really threatened when midfield in a Nottingham nursery (5f, good to soft) three weeks ago; sliding down the weights but needs to up her game.

myracing Forecast Prices: 3/1 Lomu, 4/1 Poets’ Society, 5/1 Coolfitch, White Royale, 8/1 Harome, 10/1 Prince Of Cool, 14/1 Twizzell, 16/1 Ventura Secret, Bay Station, Spin Doctor
