5.15pm Wolves Tips & Betting Preview 11/11/2016

Wolverhampton’s third race (5:15) is no ordinary maiden. Ten runners line up from some of the country’s top yards, all hoping to break their maiden tags.

IN SUMMARY: AFRICAN BEAT looks the one to beat on recent form. She got her name in plenty of notebooks after a late burst of speed at Newbury on debut, when only a length behind the winner at the Berkshire track. If she can improve from that form as expected she will be hard to beat. Meanwhile Sable Island represents good Each Way value for Sir Michael Stoute

1 Beach Break – Ralph Beckett’s colt has made two track appearances, the two-year-old finished eighth in a Newmarket maiden behind Frankel colt Eminent. George Baker’s ride then improved to finish third in a maiden at Newbury, but switches to all-weather today.

2 Capital City – One of two Godolphin colts in the race, he’s a half-brother to Richard Hannon’s Tupi who has won three races including a listed contest at this distance. His price tag is 200,000 gns, and will be highly regarded at Saeed Bin Suroor’s yard.

3 Flaming Marvel – James Fanshawe and Tom Queally team up for this newcomer. His pedigree isn’t as strong as others in the field, but he related to Colonial Classic who won two races including a maiden over this course and distance.

4 Hochfeld – He cost 50,000gns for the Mark Johnston team. This Cape Cross colt makes his debut, but his dam was a two-year-winner over seven furlongs and went on to win the Fred Winter at the Cheltenham Festival.

5 Kuiper Belt – In the same colours of Derby hope Ulysses, David Lanigan’s colt has only had one ride at Newmarket. He finished a disappointing seventh in that run last month with eleven lengths between him and the winner Makkaar. He steps up an extra furlong, and with some racecourse experience could run better.

6 My Brother Mike – Dale Swift takes the ride aboard this Bated Breath gelding. He cost 25,000gns which is fractional compared to some of today’s rival, and on paper this looks a tricky test. His dam Coming Back raced four times winning once.

7 Pete So High – Richard Hannon’s chance will need to run a lot better than his only run at Newbury. Now switching to the all-weather, this High Chaparral gelding finished tenth with 17 lengths separating him with the winner’s cheque. His dam raced at listed level in native Germany.

8 Sable Island – This New Approach colt has only raced once, when six in a similar maiden at Sailsbury. He’s a half-brother to Rifle Range, who has won twice over a mile. Sir Michael Stoute’s colt posted a decent effort in that race, but this requires more from this Derby entry.

9 Screaming Gemini – Roger Varian and Jack Mitchell team up with this Shamardal colt. He finished sixth on his debut at Newmarket a fortnight ago, the step up in trip could advance his chances but he may need further improvement from that run.

10 War At Sea – Qatar Racing are represented by this 105,000 gns colt. David Simcock’s two-year-old comes from an unraced dam, but sired by Mastercraftsman. His half-brother, Bertinoro, is a listed winner in Italy.

11 African Beat – After finishing fourth at Newbury, African Beat may be one of Godolphin’s best chance of the weekend in an ordinary maiden affair. The filly didn’t get to grip with racing until too late on her debut at the Berkshire track, running on well to be only a length away at the Berkshire track. She should improve from the run, and with plenty of potential she should be the one to beat in this.
