5.15pm Wolverhampton Tips & Betting Preview 05/04/2017

This is an interesting 7f contest at Wolverhampton, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: You wouldn’t want to take a short price about many in this and TINK gets the vote to improve on her recent second over C&D. She showed clear improvement for the step up in trip and now only a pound higher, can reverse the form with Jack Blane here. Luduamf may be the biggest danger for the Richard Hannon yard having been effective off similar marks to this recently.

1 GREYJOY – 50,000GNS yearling by Mastercraftsman who’s shown limited ability in five starts to date. He’s been gelded since his last run just a couple of weeks ago and he needs to do more on his third start in handicap company off a mark of 60. Needs to improve back on a quicker surface and he’s stepped down in trip so tricky to know what to expect.

2 LUDUAMF – Tamayuz colt who won a seller at Leicester in the summer of last year in good style. He’s found his level at present with some solid enough efforts at marks in and around this and he’s been dropped another pound on the back of his latest run over C&D. Hollie Doyle takes over for a yard in sparkling form of late (24% strike rate) and he has a solid chance in this with more progression surely to come.

3 HOLLYWOOD HARRY – Took a big step forward to finish a length behind a well-handicapped type of Sir Mark Prescott’s. There was clear progression on just his third start in handicap company and there should be more to come here off a pound higher. He looked to enjoy the long straight at Newcastle last time out so it’ll be interesting to see how he fares here but he’s only on a mark of 57 and this is weaker than his latest assignment.

4 SCEALTARA – Holy Roman Emperor filly who should do better the further she goes. She was outpaced last time out over C&D so it’s a small surprise to see her kept over this trip but she’s 3lbs lower than when seen on handicap debut and she should do better here. Yard have a decent 13% strike rate here but others make more appeal.

5 LADY VOLANTE – An exposed filly without a win from 14 career starts. She finished second of seven over C&D back in February but that came in a seller and she’s struggled in better races since. She’s down another pound today but she looks exposed and others make more appeal at the weights although the yard are ticking over well at present.

6 JACK BLANE – Finished ahead of a few of these on his last start when victorious by a neck. He’s worse off with a couple here at the weights but he showed himself to be in good form and more importantly, a progressive type. A 2lb rise looks fair at this point of his career and it’ll be interesting to see whether he can stretch out the field again here from a wider draw in stall 8. C&D winner has to be respected.

7 A SURE WELCOME – Completed a double last year which included a success over C&D. He’s now 6lbs higher than the first of those victories and he’s been gelded over the winter which is an interesting move which could possibly bring out some more improvement. The form is average but he can’t be discounted with the cheekpieces left on again today. Yard have a poor 2% strike rate here from 54 runners.

8 NEWTON HEATH – Handicap debut today off a lowly-mark of 53. He’s been beaten a long way in two attempts over 7 furlongs including here at Wolverhampton and it’s hard to be enthusiastic about his chances here with recent SP’s of 100/1, 100/1 and 200/1. Market will be the best guide to his chances today for a yard that are in decent form of late (33% strike rate from 6 runners).

9 FAST KAR – French import who won a low-grade race on Very Soft ground on his second start in April. She’s shown a little bit of form in five starts to date at Dundalk and in the UK and has done better over further including over today’s 7 furlongs. She’s another to finish behind Jack Blane on her last start and she remains on a mark of 52 which looks fair at this stage of her career.

10 VIOLA PARK – Two wins in 14 starts for this yard including over C&D. He wasn’t seen to best effect over a mile at Southwell two runs ago but showed up better here when fourth of a ten-strong field. The handicapper has left him on a mark of 51 which is only a pound higher than his last success so there’s every chance he’ll run his race again. Becoming more exposed though and isn’t exactly chucked in.

11 LOW AND BE LOVED – Has been sold for less and less over the course of her career and changed hands for just 2,500GNS in February. Made her handicap debut off a mark of 55 and was beaten out of sight at 66/1 and the handicapper has rightly dropped her 5lbs for that woeful effort. The yard have a poor strike rate at Wolverhampton, standing at 4% and others make more appeal.

12 TINK – Took a big step forward to finish a neck behind Jack Blane off just 1lb lower and clearly enjoyed her first attempt at 7 furlongs. That came as a surprise having been sent off 33/1 and she’ll do even better now with that experience under her belt and there’s every chance she can reverse the form here. Yard have a poor 6% strike rate here but she’s not without a chance and the market will be interesting.
