IN SUMMARY: Belledesert looked in superb form when winning her last two starts and it can often by dangerous to oppose a filly on a roll but the forecast rain might just knock the edge of her challenge and this can go to LAUGHTON, who kept on well for fifth over 5f in a warm race at the Ebor meeting here last month and has scope to continue his progress back over 6f. Flying Pursuit comes here after running a big race at Ascot last month and is respected. Today’s race represents a drop in class for Paddy Power, who could also have a say.

Flying Pursuit – Has remained in good form since winning at Ripon (6f, good) in June and ran a big race when second in the Shergar Cup Sprint at Ascot (6f, good to firm) last month; nudged up another 1lb for that but goes on any ground and ought to be in the thick of things again.

East Street Revue – Non-runner

Belledesert – Looked in excellent nick when scoring at Bath (5.7f, firm) last month and again when following-up under penalty at Nottingham (6f, good to firm) 48 hours later; impossible to rule out in current mood but combination of rise in class, hike up the weights and slower ground could make this assignment tougher.

Lagenda – Placed three consecutive times over 7f when fitted with cheekpieces in spring; might be suited by today’s drop back in trip and handles softish ground but been given a break since a moderate run in June and is yet to add to his 2yo maiden success.

Dark Defender – Won a C&D nursery last summer but this year’s best form was recorded over 5f, most notably a soft-ground win at Ayr in July; gave good account when fourth at Chester (5.5f, good) last month but remains on a fairly tough mark and might find a couple of these too strong.

Silhuette – Looked very promising when winning first two 2yo starts for Ann Duffield last summer but struggled in a 7f Listed race on seasonal debut in June and was sold for just £1,500 last month; this race is easier but it takes a big leap of faith to support her.

Lady Clair – This year’s form has been patchy but she stayed on well to capitalise on some help from the handicapper at Chester (5.5f, good) last month; not certain to build on that performance but 4lb rise doesn’t look excessive and the increased emphasis on stamina here ought to suit.

Paddy Power – Has only a 5f AW maiden win to his name from 13 starts but finished a respectable sixth in a valuable event at Newmarket (6f, good to firm) last month and will appreciate this drop in class; versatile ground-wise and can’t be ruled out.

Laughton – Progressive colt who scored at Glorious Goodwood (5f, good to firm) in July and posted another good effort when keeping-on fifth at the Ebor meeting here (5f, good) last month; could still have untapped potential over 6f and might be the answer.

Mywayistheonlyway – Changed hands for £10,000 soon after comfortable 7f win in first-time blinkers for Martyn Meade last month; still has fairly low mileage but finished last when tried in a visor on recent stable debut and is up in class today; others have more pressing claims.

myracing Forecast Prices: 3/1 Laughton, 7/2 Flying Pursuit, 6/1 Belledesert, 7/1 Lagenda, Dark Defender, Lady Clair, 8/1 Paddy Power, 25/1 Mywayistheonlyway, 33/1 Silhuette
