4.20pm Lingfield Tips & Betting Preview 06/03/2017

Seven runners go to post for the fifth race of the day at Lingfield on Monday, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: Matrow’s Lady is likely to be much better going back left handed and has to be respected but this can go to Anna Newton-Smith’s GORING ONE. He got back to form on his latest start, keeping on gamely at Fontwell for a deserved victory and a 5lb rise looks unlikely to stop him if he is the same form again today. Conditions are to suit and going up slightly in trip should definitely suit on the evidence of that latest run, so he has to be respected and looks the likely winner of this.

1 LETTER EXIT – Returned from a year and a half break at Huntingdon on his latest start when pulling up, though he was reasonably well fancied at 8/1 and a bad mistake at the first put him on the back foot almost immediately. He may well do better yet in this sphere as a lightly raced seven year old for Lucy Wadham, but he remains risky and others can have better cases made for them. Possible each way claims if building on that run but it’s hard to make a solid case for him in terms of win purposes.

2 CHEAT THE CHEATER – Ten year old who is C&D winner and a very capable sort on his day, but his ‘day’ doesn’t come around very often. He ran his characteristic race at Ffos Las in December when outpaced from an early stage before running on very strongly when it was all too late. He never went a yard on his latest run when falling at Towcester a month ago, not responding to Brendan Powell’s urging at the time. Now 2lb below his last winning mark so does have each way claims, but his overall record of three wins from twenty-two tells the whole story over fences.

3 MATROW’S LADY – C&D winner on her penultimate start  in very, very comfortably fashion and she made it no wins from ten runs at right handed tracks when third at Herefrod on her latest start (2m 4f, Heavy). She is likely to be much happier now back at a left handed track and Harry Reed takes the ride today, taking off a very useful 7lb and effectively making her be below her last winning mark. Neil Mulholland’s yard are going well at present and she looks set to go well again with conditions to suit, and has to be respected.

4 MAGICAL MAN – Has staged a late resurgence of late, winning well on his latest start at Towcester (3m, Heavy) after forging clear on the run in. He has a 6lb penalty to deal with as a result which takes him to his career high mark, but if building on that effort he shouldn’t be one to rule out for the placings with conditions to suit today. He looks vulnerable for win purposes off this mark based on previous evidence, but wouldn’t go amiss int he placings and has to be given a second look.

5 GORING ONE – Returned to form on his latest start when a clear cut winner at Fontwell two weeks ago (2m 5f, Soft), staying on strongly and a return to this sort of trip should suit him based on that evidence. Raised 5lb for that victory, if he remains in the same form again for today’s run he may well be tough to beat with conditions to suit and 3lb claimer Charlie Deutsch taking the ride. All signs point to another big run and he has to be respected, looking like the likely winner.

6 AWAY DOWN WEST – Has shown little in seven rules runs, with three of those over fences and he took a crashing fall when coming down at Towcester last month, struggling at the time. He was 66/1 that day and makes almost no appeal again today and is best left alone, as he has nothing in his record to suggest he can be competitive.

7 VEAUCE DE SIVOLA – Eight year old who has been badly out form since returning this season, well beaten at Hereford on his penultimate start over hurdles before finishing well beaten at Lingfield behind Matrow’s Lady in January. He now is 0-18 over fences and looks to be up against it today, despite now being on a basement mark of 72 with Micthell Bastyan claiming 10lb. Very hard to fancy.
