4.15pm Bath Tips & Betting Preview 17/09/2017

Only a small field but an intriguing race nonetheless with a couple of these sure to make up into decent sprinters as they mature. Our runner by runner preview and expert tip are below.

IN SUMMARY: ROUNDHAY PARK is the only runner on the card for Nigel Tinkler, a rare visit to the track for the North Yorkshire handler. He is a strong traveller, dropping in grade having made a smart nursery debut. Big Time Maybe looks his biggest danger but he is not sure to get his own way up from with Zain Smarts in the line-up, the pair may end up taking each other on from a long way out and set it up for the selection to pick up the pieces close home.

1 BIG TIME MAYBE – Yet to get his head in front after five starts but has shown snippets of solid form. He only has one way of going and that’s point and shoot, tactics so nearly pulled off on his debut at this track. He improved for being gelded and the fitting of a visor at Chelmsford last time. Cheekpieces are the headgear of choice now but he won’t find it easy to dominate this field in the same fashion with Zain Smarts in the line-up.

2 ROUNDHAY PARK – Smooth traveller, he got off the mark at the third time of asking at Beverley. He was beaten just two lengths at the same track last time from this mark on his first go in a nursery, in a deeper contest than this one. A turning uphill track clearly suit him then, which bodes well for the suitability of this test. He is the only runner on the card to make the long journey down from North Yorkshire for trainer Nigel Tinkler which has to make him of interest. With Big Time Maybe and Zain Smarts taking each other on up front, he can stalk the pace and pounce late once they have softened each other up.

3 TONKOLILI – Produced a smart debut at this track when a close second on quick ground, but she has taken a pair of backwards steps since. She is entitled to improve for heading into handicap company despite being handicapped a little higher than looks ideal. If she can tap back into her debut form she would have a squeak with the way the race should be run in front of her suiting.

4 ZAIN SMARTS – Showed a few glimpses of form in maiden company but she improved massively when making her turf handicap debut at this track last month. Left alone on the front end, she tore that field apart to come home an easy two and a quarter length winner. A seven pound rise shouldn’t be enough to stop her on the level of form she showed on that occasion but she won’t get a soft time of things on the front end with Big Time Maybe in opposition.

5 DREAMBOAT ANNIE – Broke her duck at this track back in June, running well again here on her nursery debut. She has not got close to that form in a pair of starts since so perhaps a return to this course will see her in a better light. She has looked a little weak in the finish on occasions which is a concern with this as it’s sure to be run at an end to end gallop. She has an each way chance but may once more prove a little vulnerable in the last hundred yards.

6 MAYGOLD –  Has shown a little ability in her three starts for a mark, predominantly on soft ground so she wouldn’t want to see conditions drying out. She gets fitted with a first time hood having shown a few signs of temperament on her latest start at Chepstow. She enters handicaps at a feasible level and wouldn’t need to improve much more to play a hand, closely matched with Dreamboat Annie on a line through Spoof who both have chased home in recent starts.
