3.30pm Wolverhampton Tips & Betting Preview 14/02/2017

A strong field of six got to post for the feature race of the day at Wolverhampton, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: Mythical Madness brings some brilliant form into the race for David O’Meara and looks to be a big danger but the eye is immediately drawn to Ralph Beckett’s ANDASTRA. An impressive winner on debut as a two year in 2015, she makes her belated return today for connections with a huge amount of untapped potential. Her pedigree and the fact she was bought for E190,000 indicates much better can be expected yet and she may just have too much promise for this small field with Oisin Murphy taking the ride.

1 OUR CHANNEL – Three time winner on the all weather including wins at listed level, the latest of which coming at Kempton in March (1m 2f, Std). He hasn’t however been in any sort of form since then with only good run this season, which was a fourth here over a further trip on Boxing Day (1m 1f, Std). Certainly has risks attached but Jamie Osbourne and the Melbourne 10 are in good form at present and he has the assistance of George Baker to help. Likely to play a role and has to be respected.

2 BANCNUANAHEIREANN – Ten year old who is certainly useful at his best, but his last win came in November 2015 and has mainly struggled since then, with his only creditable effort in 2016 being a fourth at Ascot in August (1m, Good to Firm). Well beaten at Lingfield when last seen though is now below his last winning mark for the in form Michael Appleby team with rider Alistair Rawlinson taking the ride who is also in form. Risky proposition whichever way he’s looked at.

3 LANCEUR – Struggling over fences when last seen early 2016 and on that basis has a lot to prove on stable debut for William Stone today. He does hold a win at Chelmsford in April 2015 at a lower level than this (1m 2f, Std) off this mark but obviously that was now nearly two years ago and he’s been poor in the main since then. Too many questions to answer and likely best watched.

4 MYTHICAL MADNESS – Has done well for his new yard, winning twice here including over C&D in January off a 3lb lower mark than today’s. Not necessarily disgraced when fifth at Lingfield after not seeing out the trip so dropping back to the mile is likely to suit off the same mark. Likely to run a much better race this time around for David O’Meara as a mark of 101 certainly looks achievable and he has to be respected with Daniel Tudhope taking the ride.

5 THIRD TIME LUCKY – Hasn’t been disgraced since switched to the all weather this winter, unable to place but going close nonetheless. Only beaten around two lengths when fourth at Lignfield in January in a similar race, though has now been raised 3lb for that effort. Has never won off a mark higher than 95 but likely to go close off this mark of 101 if improving on that latest run, and the assistance of inform Paul Hanagan could be a big help. Richard Fahey’s yard remains in good form at present and he has to be respected.

6 ANDASTRA – The most interesting runner in the field, winning impressively on debut as a two year old at Nottingham in September 2015 and makes her belated return today for connections. She has a huge amount of untapped potential in the locker and may just have too much promise for these regardless of the absence with Oisin Murphy taking the ride for the inform Ralph Beckett yard. Her pedigree and the fact she was bought for E190,000 indicates much better can be expected yet and should be the one to beat today.
