3.30pm Musselburgh Tips & Betting Preview 03/11/2016

The feature race on Thursday’s Musselburgh card is a 0-135 handicap chase over just short of two and a half miles. Read on for our full race preview and experts’ betting tips.

IN SUMMARY: A case can be argued for the majority of these.  The old legs of Wings Of Smoke and Quito Du Tresor are both well handicapped if they can summon one last hurrah.  Prince Khurram and Royal Macnab are the stuff that placepot hunters dream of, but both find winning difficult.  As such this may go to Dr Richard Newland in a rare Scottish raid.  SEEFOOD shaped really well at Cheltenham last time and this is a sizeable drop in class for him.

1 Seefood – A very rare runner for the trainer at the track, he comes here off the back of a smart Cheltenham run.  That was a better race than this and having travelled well, turning for home in 3rd, he faded up the hill.  This trip is arguably a little short of ideal but his last three wins have all come on sharp right handed tracks, something that he will face again here againast lesser opposition.

2 Wings Of Smoke – Very well treated on his best form, now 11lbs lower than when winning over two miles at Taunton in January.  He has shown little in the way of quality form since, seemingly regressing quicker than the assessor can drop him,  To write him off completely at this level however probably isn’t wise.

3 Prince Khurram – Runner up three times from this mark in five runs since winning at Perth in June.  His most recent conqueror has won again since to boost the form but the suspicion remains that he is more of a placepot proposition that a win one.

4 Royal Macnab – Another who has been the bridesmaid more often that not recently, second three starts on the bounce.  Just a pound higher than when winning over C&D last December, he looks a likely player if cherry ripe following a break.

5 Castletown – The youngest in the field at 4 years of age but garnered plenty of jumping experience when trained in France.  Was placed numerous times there but all on much softer ground and his latest run on the quickest ground he has encountered was a career worst.  The surface is likely to be quicker still here and he remains a maiden.

6 Quito Du Tresor – A three time C&D winner, Lucinda Russell’s old stager has been a permanent fixture at Musselburgh meetings for many years.  Quick ground is fine and he’s very well weighted on his best but it’s almost two years since his last victory.
