3.10pm Ludlow Tips & Betting Preview 05/10/2016

The feature race on Wednesday’s Ludlow card is a Class 3 handicap chase for stayers. Our betting tips focus on an unexposed 7yo bidding to get his career back on track after a break. Read on for the full race preview.

IN SUMMARY: Charlie Longsdon usually has his string in good form at this stage of the season and it will be no surprise to see Azure Fly bounce back from some rather laboured efforts and win this race for the second year running. Kilbree Kid, who has emerged from a spell in the doldrums and won at Perth twice in recent months, is another obvious contender. Meanwhile, there’s every chance we are yet to see the best of Easy Street, who made an excellent start to his chasing career in June. Despite all that, though, it could be worth taking a chance on HOW ABOUT NOW. The Rebecca Curtis-trained 7yo ended last season with dreadful form figures of PPP, but might have been refreshed by a break and some of the form he showed when making a promising start to his chasing career at about this time last year puts him right in the mix.

1 Set List – Not yet fully exposed but was fortunate when gaining a hard-fought success in first-time visor at Stratford (2m6f, good) in July and took a heavy fall when back in action there last month; needs to bounce back from that bad experience with a new career-best performance to take this.

2 Kilbree Kid – Probably not quite as good as he once was but has rediscovered some form and won twice over 3m at Perth in recent months; remains well handicapped on old form and will be suited by the fast ground here; no surprise if revival continues to gather momentum.

3 Easy Street – Nothing special over hurdles but made excellent start to chasing career in June, gaining easy wins at Fontwell (3m1f, good) and Uttoxeter (2m4f, good); unseated rider on next outing and was a disappointing favourite for a competitive event when last in action but could still have untapped potential.

4 Heist – Won consecutive starts at Kilbeggan (2m4f/3m1f) in July/August and would probably have preferred a stronger overall gallop when keeping-on third behind Kilbree Kid at Perth (3m, good to soft) a fortnight ago; probably won’t be far away.

5 How About Now – Made bright start to chasing career a year ago, winning at Exeter (3m, good), and probably found 2m4f a bit sharp when clear third here in December; badly lost his way afterwards (pulled up three consecutive times) but could have a say if 204-day break has done him good.

6 Azure Fly – Some way below best form and well held when placed on first two starts this season, so has some questions to answer here; however, has been given a four-month break and is currently 8lb lower than when landing this prize in 2015; can’t be ignored.

7 Dushybeag – Will be suited by today’s fast ground but was sold out of Michael Hourigan’s stable for £5,500 after a poor performance in July and was beaten out of sight when making stable debut last month (2m4f); has too much to prove.

myracing Forecast Prices: 3/1 Kilbree Kid, Azure Fly, 4/1 Easy Street, 5/1 Set List, 7/1 Heist, How About Now, 33/1 Dushybeag
