2.40pm Wolverhampton Tips & Betting Preview 30/03/2017

This is a competitive sprint maiden over 5 furlongs, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: Some useful types in this and FULL INTENTION can finally break his maiden tag and win this. He’s got the best form in the book following his placed effort in listed company at Royal Ascot and he should have improved again over the winter so he’s the one they have to beat. Wishing Time is still learning her job and she should be better for her recent outing although this trip remains of concern.

1 CHARLIE VICTOR – £20,000 purchase as a yearling and is by Myboycharlie so he’s bred to love this trip. There was plenty of money around for him on debut but he ran a disappointing race having been beaten 15 lengths and he suffered another heavy defeat over 6 furlongs last summer. He’s been off the track for 266 days and it’s tricky to know what to expect here having shown some poor form last year. He should have more potential than he’s shown to date and he’s worth a second look in the betting for a trainer with an excellent 20% strike rate here.

2 FULL INTENTION – Beaten favourite on his last three starts (10/11, 4/11, 5/4) and he returns to action here off a seasonal break. His best form has come over 5 furlongs and he hasn’t been beaten far in better races than this including a fourth placed effort in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot last year. He’s related to the excellent Quiet Reflection and there should be more to come from him this year. Greatly respected although he’s not bombproof.

3 HISAR – Returned to action with a fantastic run at Kempton last time out having finished second to a really nice type of Richard Hannon’s yard. That form should put him in real contention here, especially if he can improve again off that run which came just 10 days ago. He’s been drawn in stall 7 here which makes life more difficult and he does drop down to 5 furlongs for the first time so there are questions to be answered but he’s got good form in the book and deserves another chance in this.

4 LIQUID – £40,000 Zoffany colt who nearly struck on debut having been extremely well-supported. That was in a better grade than this so it was disappointing he couldn’t follow that up in a weaker race next time out when he finished fifth of 8. He’s been off the track for 271 days and it’ll be interesting to see how fit he will be today although his trainer did get him ready first time out. Interesting but others make more appeal in this. Trainer has an excellent 20% strike rate here.

5 SECRET STRATEGY – Cost 100,000 Euros as a foal but was sold on for £7,500 as a 2yo and he has clearly had some serious issues to depreciate that much in the value. His trainer has a 7% strike rate here and isn’t renowned for sending out maiden winners so he’s best watched in this.

6 SENECA CHIEF – Related to a winner over 5 furlongs on synthetics at a low level and Daniel Kubler’s runner has been comfortably held in two starts this year. He’s raced over 5 and 6 furlongs and has been sent off at 20/1 and 33/1 on each occasion and his runner will probably need handicaps to get his head in front. He does have the benefit of race fitness but it would be a surprise to see him overturn some decent types in this.

7 WISHING TIME – David O’Meara’s Frankel filly has been slightly disappointing having been well-held in two 5 furlong races on the All-Weather. She returned to action at Newcastle earlier this month and she was outpaced in the final furlong having attempted to make all. Connections persist with sprint trips for her and she does receive 5lbs from the field here which makes her of interest. One to watch closely in the betting as Oisin Murphy takes over but there is a question mark about this trip.
