2.40pm Newmarket Tips & Betting Preview 05/08/2017

Six furlongs the trip for a fillies only nursery, live on ITV Racing. Our runner by runner preview and expert tip are below.

IN SUMMARY: Neola is one of the more exposed ones in the line-up, but her run in the Queen Mary when finishing fifth is the best line of form on offer in this field. Queen Penn should be in the mix if she is able to reproduce her best form from the Rowley Mile from earlier in the season. The vote goes to FIRST DRIVE, she won last time despite finding trouble and running green when hitting the front. She looks to have bundles of improvement in the tank and could have been let in lightly.

1 NEOLA – Broke her duck in impressive fashion at Nottingham in May, she has improved since when finishing fifth in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot. A handicap from 92 has her in a smaller pond than she has been trying to swim in, a mark that looks more than fair on the form in the book. She is one of the more exposed horses however and put up a lesser effort trying this trip for the first time on her last run.

2 ELYSIUM DREAM – Another to run with credit at Royal Ascot, just fading close home into fifth in the Chesham. This return to six furlongs should suit her having faded badly trying seven again last time, but her worst run came on good to soft so that leaves her with a little to prove with cut still in the ground.

3 TIG TOG – Best performance came on quicker ground at Newbury but being by Dark Angel, there is plenty of hope that she will enjoy getting her toe in on her handicap debut. Her three runs for a mark were all over an extra furlong to this, appearing to stay the trip well. The step down to six furlongs is an interesting choice then, she may need them to go hard in front to make her extra stamina show.

4 FAITHFUL PROMISE – Just got home in a lesser nursery than this at Catterick last time, the second win of her career. A two pound rise may not be enough to stop her at a lower level, but as the most exposed of the field, she looks to have her work cut out to make it win number three.

5 FIRST DRIVE – Got her head in front at the third time of asking, dropped back to this trip having failed to stay seven at Kempton. She encountered a troubled run on that occasion before showing greenness when hitting the front, hanging badly. As a result she won with plenty more in hand than the half length official margin would suggest. She ran well on good to soft on her debut so the ground is no concern and may have been let in a little lightly in her first handicap, she gets the nod.

6 PARAMOUNT LOVE – Placed in all three of her maidens but without really progressing. She handled soft on her debut fine as well as good to firm since so no ground concerns, but the step down to six furlongs is a bit of a question mark given the way she has kept going over seven furlongs so far.

7 QUEEN PENN – Standout effort from three maidens came on the Rowley Mile on good to soft ground. She was just half a length behind future Listed scorer Tajaanus there, a form line that reads well at this level. Her runs either side were nothing like as good so it is hard to know which Queen Penn will turn up, solid chance if she is on a going day.

8 ONEFOOTINPARADISE – Steadily progressive in three runs for a mark, it was no surprise to see her struggle to get competitive in the Super Sprint at Newbury last time. She will find this easier in a nursery on ground that suits, but needs a little more if she is to get her head in front for the first time.

9 HUNNI – Took a sizeable step forward on her third start, though still easily outpointed at Windsor. She will find handicapping more suitable, with the step up in trip suiting on the way she stuck to her task at Windsor, but this looks a little competitive for her.
