1.40pm Yarmouth Tips & Betting Preview 25/04/2017

IN SUMMARY: David Simcock has a fantastic record at Yarmouth and this looks like the perfect starting point for MARINE ONE. He’s a 900,000GNS son of Frankel and with a host of fancy entries to his name, he should be up to winning this on debut and going on to better things. It’s interesting that Jim Crowley has chosen Mooltazem over two Hamdan Al Maktoum runners whilst Zain Star is of interest at a bigger price.

1 ALWAHSH – Plenty of support around for him on debut when sent off 9/2 but he couldn’t get any closer than eighth of a nine strong field. He was only beaten 6 1/2 lengths and the form looks relatively strong so there should be more to come now from this son of Dubawi over a mile. One of the likelier winners of this but others make slightly more appeal on the form they have already achieved.

2 BUXTED DREAM – Down the field in a ten-runner maiden at Lingfield last June and it’s a small surprise he hasn’t been seen since. He steps up in trip to a mile from 6 furlongs which should be fine based on his dam’s pedigree although he’s likely to need this run off a 313-day break. The yard’s maiden runners have been quite consistent of late but very few have managed to win. Opposed today.

3 CHUNKYFUNKYMONKEY – Twice-raced gelding who has been beaten out of sight in two maidens already this April. He was last of 7, beaten 18 1/2 lengths at Musselburgh just 10 days ago and it’s incredibly unlikely that he will strike here. He will be far better suited to handicap company which is where he will be heading after today.

4 DUTCH QUALITY – 280,000GNS yearling and he displayed some modest form as a 2yo last season. He was third of nine on debut and he just lacked a bit of pace over 7 furlongs on his second start at Chelmsford where he was beaten 7 1/2 lengths. He should do better as a 3yo and the extra furlong should suit so there are plenty of positives for a yard that have a 14% strike rate here. Andrea Atzeni is booked to ride.

5 FREE FORUM – Holy Roman Emperor colt who has looked pace-less on two occasions this season over a mile. He has only beaten one rival home out of a possible 20 and although he should improve for the switch to turf, he looks up against it here. The yard excel at this track with a 30% strike rate but it’s unlikely to be bettered with this runner today.

6 HAKEEM – William Haggas has an excellent strike rate here (34%) and he runs an interesting gelding here. He’s by Exceed And Excel out of Khazeena whose sire was Oasis Dream so he should have a lovely blend of speed and stamina over this mile trip. Dane O’Neil rides and he’s worth close attention in the betting on what looks like Hamdan Al Maktoum’s first string. Respected.

7 MARINE ONE – Second runner in this for David Simcock and he’s a fascinating son of Frankel. He was bought for an astonishing 900,000GNS as a yearling and has some fancy entries as you would expect including the Dante and Derby. Oisin Murphy takes the ride and connections must be hopeful of an excellent debut if he is to justify his entries. The betting will provide some vital clues and it would be no surprise to see plenty of support for him here.

8 MOOLTAZEM – 90,000GNS purchase and he’s a son of Elzaam out of Whisper Dance. He’s speedily-bred so a mile looks a stiff enough test on debut and it’s interesting that Jim Crowley rides this colt over Hamdan Al Maktoum’s runners today. He’s likely to attract significant support and John Gosden has been in blistering form of late (15 winners from his last 44 runners, 34% strike rate). He ranks as one of the top contenders of this today.

9 SOLDIER BLUE – Expensive purchase as a 2yo costing 300,000 Euros which is a ten-fold increase on his yearling price tag. He’s obviously pleased physically at home and he has a pedigree to suggest he should be very forward. Charlie Appleby has a modest strike rate at Yarmouth (14%) and his gelding looks slightly up against it here with some more attractive profiles in the race. A hood is worn on racecourse debut.

10 STORMY BLUES – Half-brother to the excellent stayer Big Orange and he’s another expensive purchase in this having cost 160,000GNS as a yearling. He’s partnered by Adam Kirby and is probably worth just watching on debut with some more attractive and potentially more forward types against him here today. Should be a capable sort though and the yard are in hot form at the moment (21% strike rate).

11 ZAIN STAR – 115,000GNS purchase and he hails from a yard that can can get one ready first time out. They have only sent 15 runners to Yarmouth and five have won which makes for interesting reading but the yard are without a winner from their last 11 runners. Jamie Spencer rides which is interesting but his profile suggests he may want further and he’s best watched here. Would be of interest with significant market support.

12 LADY FREYJA – Well-beaten on two occasions as a 2yo and she steps back up to a mile having looked short of pace last time out over 7 furlongs. She’s got an excellent blend of speed and stamina in her pedigree and she ran much better in that Newmarket maiden than her price suggested so she’s not completely out of this. She’ll need to be on the top of her game to win this and she may be seen to better effect in handicaps.

13 LET’S SWAY – Stable debut for Amy Murphy today having been well-beaten on two starts for Martyn Meade. The form of those races aren’t anything special and she has plenty to find with a few of these on form. She’s exposed to all of the newcomers and will be suited by a step up in trip and handicap company. Avoided here for the yard’s first runner at Yarmouth.

14 LOOKINTOMYEYES – Cheap purchase as a yearling costing 7,000GNS and she’s likely to require her initial racecourse experience today. She’s likely to stay further than this and the presence of a hood and tongue tie on debut dents confidence considerably. She’s likely to be sent off at a big price here today and it would be a shock to see her win this.

15 PIAFFE – Twice-raced filly who showed absolutely no improvement on her seasonal reappearance following a disappointing debut. She’s failed to beat a rival home from her 14 opponents and she’s another in this that will be better suited to handicaps which she’ll be eligible for after today. The yard have a 7% strike rate here and she’s best watched here.
