Chelmsford City Betting Tips

Chelmsford City Racecourse originally opened in Essex in April 2008 and was formerly known as Great Leighs Racecourse. In January 2009 it went into administration and it wasn’t until January 2015 that we saw racing there again. This is a very popular All Weather track for Newmarket trainers, who are located only roughly 50 miles away. Despite the polytrack surface, there have already been appearances from star horses such as Tryster and Buratino.

Chelmsford City Betting Tips

A left handed oval measuring 8.5 furlongs with a 2 furlong home straight, it is very Americanised in appearance. Unlike many other polytrack surfaces, it suits strong gallopers thanks to it’s sweeping bends and lengthy home straight. Given the course was nearly laid, the kickback was initially severe and it has looked to be difficult for horses to come from the rear to win. Re waxing took place in July 2015 and kickback has been much improved since according to jockeys and trainers alike.

Chelmsford City Draw Bias

The forgiving bends and galloping nature of the track have made for very fair racing. There is little to no draw bias over any trip, unlike many other tracks,

However, despite the work on the track, there remains a strong bias towards front runners on the track. The highest percentage of front runners of all tracks in the UK win here at Chelmsford. This is especially pronounced over shorter trips.

Chelmsford City Betting Trends

Due to the limited amount of racing, there are less statistics available at Chelmsford than other All Weather tracks. Silvestre De Sousa and Jim Crowley both had excellent 2016 results – as they did at most tracks, finishing 1st and 2nd in the jockey championships – with 21% and 22% strike rates respectively.

As always, Godolphin horses are considered closely when picking our Chelmsford tips. They have an impressive strike rate of 40% in 2016, with 10 wins from 25 runs as of 17th October 2016, coupled with a +£9.30 level stakes profit.

Chris Dwyer was another with an eye catching season at Chelmsford, recording a 23% strike rate and +£73 level stakes profit.
