Trainer Nicky Martin has an exceptional strike-rate of 58 per cent this season, landing seven winners from her 12 runners. Apples Moon has provided two of those victories and a 5lb rise might not be enough to stop her.

Sometimes the favourite isn’t worth taking on and that is definitely the case with Jade De Grugy. She’s a Grade 1-winning mare who is levels above her opposition here. Willie Mullins’ seven-year-old has 25lb in hand and it’ll be a huge shock if she fails to get off the mark over fences here.
Appreciate It won this race impressively last season and the form of his second here on seasonal debut has received a significant boost. Willie Mullins trains four of the five runners here and Paul Townend’s mount appears to be the most likely winner.

Olly Murphy’s Wade Out has made an excellent start to life over fences and is currently unbeaten in two chase starts. He beat a subsequent Grade 2 winner at Worcester in October before winning a Listed contest at Cheltenham and looks ready for the step up in grade.

Captain Teague was a smart novice hurdler a couple of seasons ago, winning the Challow Hurdle at Newbury in 2023. Things didn’t go to plan over fences and he’s been off the track for 415 days but a hurdles mark of 139 looks workable and he’s entitled to go close if fit enough.
Harry Cobden has been booked for the ride on Havaila and he won well over an extended 3m1f at Plumpton last season. Gary and Josh Moore’s gelding should be competitive off this mark and it’ll be interesting to see how he gets on over this marathon trip.

Mighty Bandit was a good second at Newbury on seasonal debut and the winner has since scored at Grade 2 level. Going one better over the same course and distance next time, the handicapper has responded with a 5lb rise but there could be more to come.
Overabottleofred finished second in her first two start over fences last season and took a step forward to win by a wide margin at Huntingdon in April. It’s hard to argue with a 5lb rise on the evidence of that performance and further progress is anticipated.
Ben Pauling’s Handstands was a Grade 1 winner over fences as novice last term and even got the better of Arkle winner Jango Baie. He was below-par in the Betfair Chase last time but he’s better than that and this race looks a lot easier.
