Having developed an interest in racing whilst in college some years ago, James has worked in many areas of the industry, including a stint hiding his face on radio! From 2008 until 2017, he ran a successful tipping service and has had shares in numerous horses including the wonderful Fast Shot. Unsurprisingly given some of the horses he has bought shares in, his punting passions lie in sprint handicaps on both the turf and All-Weather surfaces!

Racing tipster James Boyle has picked out three selections from Thursday’s cards.

With Hamilton abandoned we were left with Blame Culture as the sole runner for the column and I thought he performed really well. Not well enough to land a return, of course, but he was again keener than ideal and lacked proper cover, but stayed on strongly in the straight to be beaten less than a few lengths. His next win isn’t far off and hopefully there’s something suitable at Wolverhampton soon.

4:10 Salisbury – Belated Breath – 1pt win @ 7/2

BELATED BREATH will land me zero prizes for originality given that she has already shortened a point into favouritism but in a contest where she could get onto the lead with limited pace pressure, we will hopefully see Hughie Morrison’s filly bounce back with a big performance.

She failed to run anywhere near her usual consistently high level in the Great St Wilfred at Ripon but missed the break and seemed unsuited to the undulating nature of the track. Previous to that, she was in top form when posting a career-best in defeat at Windsor and that’s the effort to judge her on.

Returning to this C&D could also prove favourable as she bolted up here last August. Admittedly, that was a Class 5 when she was rated 72 but it came on good-to-soft and she will face something similar today. As long as everything goes to plan, I think a sixth career win will come her way.

4:45pm Lingfield – Revolutionary Man – 1pt win @ 12/1

With the market leaders looking short, a chance shall be taken on REVOLUTIONARY MAN returning with a bang after a long layoff. The now 4-year-old hasn’t been seen since a reasonably promising run over at Nottingham last May and presumably had some problems when in the care of Simon Crisford.

He was subsequently gelded in January and then sold off altogether in July, fetching 25,000gns. How much of his novice and handicap promise remains is hard to guess but he ran a cracker first time out last season and might have no issue going fresh based on that.

Connections have had him for a couple of months at least and it’s entirely possible that the change of scenery and/or training methods could get him back into form. If they do, there’s talent tucked away in the locker and at 12/1 in a mediocre-ish 0-75, it’s a worthwhile gamble to take.

8:40pm Chelmsford – Wild Flower – 1pt win @ 33/1

WILD FLOWER didn’t do quite as badly as the distance beaten would suggest on stable debut behind a runaway winner at Brighton and the form of that race has worked out; the victor scored again since, the second won next time, the third won next time and the fourth arrived on the back of a win.

She was also wearing cheekpieces and with her good Chepstow runs in June and July coming in full blinkers, it’s possible that more severe headgear is required to get the best out of her these days. As such, it’s interesting to see a visor go on for the first time and that could eke out a bit more.

Megan Nicholls being booked to ride and remove 3lbs with her claim is another taking aspect; she has never ridden for this yard but won on board the mare in 2017 and is in really good form over the past number of weeks. 33/1 looks huge, for all that it’s a bet that could go either way; well or badly!
