Prix Saint-Alary Tips & Betting Preview

This is the Prix Saint-Alary, raced over 1m 2f, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: There are some beautiful sorts on show in this Group One and it could turn out to be a smart piece of form going forwards. A few of these met in their preparation run for this race and Gold Luck came out on top that day, finishing ahead of Hebah, Monroe Bay and Vue Fantastique. She showed a game attitude that day but Hebah will be fancied to reverse the form here having been hampered and not been able to see out her race properly that day. Coronet is the leading UK challenger for John Gosden with two victories to her name including a smart Listed win where she had the useful Permian in-behind. However, the bet of the race could be the Andre Fabre trained LADY FRANKEL. She was slightly outpaced over a mile in a Group 3 last month but she finished amongst some nice horses and she will absolutely relish this extra distance. She could progress past these for a stable that have an excellent 19% strike rate at Deauville.

1 HEBAH – Finished ahead of Vue Fantastique when the pair met at Chantilly early last month. There was only a length between them that day although Jean-Claude Rouget’s runner was slightly hampered and she should confirm the form in this today. This will obviously require more now jumping from Group 3 to Group 1 company but she’s beautifully bred and there should be even more to come over this longer trip. Deserves plenty of respect.

2 PEACE IN MOTION – Finished third in a Group 3 at Cologne last month and she needs to improve her form to win this. She started favourite that day but she looked green and had no answer to her opponents when hard pressed and she will need this step up in trip to bring about improvement. Her trainer has a positive 16% strike rate at Deauville and she will improve for her second run of the season so she’s another that enters calculations.

3 CORONET – Twice-raced filly who won on two occasions as a 2yo. The last of those victories came in a Listed contest at Newmarket and the third has gone on to much better things so there are plenty of positives to draw from her profile. She will do much better as a 3yo and the ground should be no problem having won on Good to Soft on debut and it’s worth noting that John Gosden has an exceptional 35% strike rate at Deauville from 20 runners.

4 MONROE BAY – Finished second at Chantilly last month in a competitive Group 3. She finished ahead of Hebah and Vue Fantastique by a narrow margin and was just denied victory by Gold Luck having been headed in the final stages. She was sent off the 11/8 favourite that day which shows the regard she is held in and she will certainly improve for that race and the step up in trip will aid her cause today.

5 LADY FRANKEL – No prizes for guessing her sire, Andre Fabre’s runner stayed on nicely over a trip too short last month at Chantilly behind some smart sorts. She looked to be in need of this trip that day and she will be in prime condition for this following two runs this spring. She has the beating of Vue Fantastique when the pair met on debut and it would be a surprise if she couldn’t confirm the form today. Has a leading chance here.

6 SOBETSU – Broke her maiden in fine style at Newmarket last September when running out a 10-length winner. She couldn’t quite follow that effort up in a Group 1 subsequently but that wasn’t a terrible run and she arrives here with some top class form to her name. She’s yet another runner in this that will appreciate the longer trip and Charlie Appleby has been in fine form of late (33% in the past fortnight). Respected.

7 ASKING – Did well to finish second to a fair sort in a Group 3 at Leopardstown earlier this month. She’s only won once from six starts and that came in an All-Weather maiden and she’s likely to find this far too hot having not shown the same form as some of her rivals. She steps up in trip to 1m 2f for the first time but that’s unlikely to bring about sufficient improvement from her and she’s best watched here for the Coolmore team.

8 VUE FANTASTIQUE – Has finished behind a few of today’s rivals in her last couple of starts and she’s worth taking on today. She was beaten a length by Gold Luck last time out and she was sent off at 18/1 which does suggest that it was an above par performance from her and it would be a surprise to see her reverse the form today. She will certainly relish this extra distance and stall 1 is ideal but she’s likely to find one too good today.

9 ESTELLE MA BELLE – Yet to race in anything tougher than maidens and she’s likely to be one of the outsiders in this. She took four attempts to break her maiden tag and whilst she showed some progress to win last time out, the form is decidedly average and it wouldn’t give her much of a chance against some much nicer fillies in this. Her trainer has a poor 5% strike rate here, 10 winners from 195 runners and she’s opposed here.

10 BODY SCULPT – Took 7 attempts to break her maiden tag and she just edged out some average sorts in a 3yo fillies only maiden at Chantilly just a week ago. She steps up in trip today which doesn’t look like an obvious move based on her pedigree and whilst she did run a fair race in a Group 3 last month, she was comfortably beaten and it would be a surprise to see her win here.

11 GOOD LUCK – Smart filly who finished 1 3/4 lengths behind the subsequent third in the English 2000 Guineas. That came in a Listed contest and she took a big step forward to win a Group 3 at Chantilly on her seasonal return, beating a few of today’s opponents. She showed an excellent attitude to win that day and she may have a tough time confirming the form with Hebah in this. Stall 3 is perfect and she’s worthy of plenty of respect.
