5.30 Wolverhampton

Form goes out the window when we are talking about a Charlie & Mark Johnston-trained runner and that is exactly the case for their runner tonight, Golden Sands. The lightly raced maiden has uninspiring form figures that read 9550- and finished 12th of 13 runners at Kempton on handicap debut when last seen 90 days ago.

It is hard to see where the required improvement is going to come from but someone somewhere thinks this three-year-old is going to win tonight. Maybe the step up to a mile for the very first time will spark improvement while he has been eased 3lb by the handicapper also. It will also be his first start on tapeta so there are several factors as to why he could improve.

The yard’s number one rider Joe Fanning is on board which is a positive and he will have a good inside draw in stall two. Most of the yard’s runner like to do things from the front so we can fully expect this boy to blast out and try to make all. If he is fit and ready to go, he may well take some pegging back.
