Wednesday’s racing: Quinlan at Cartmel, low draws at Beverley and a 12/1 Royal Ascot tip

Beverley Racecourse

We have a busy day ahead of us on Wednesday, with six meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland. Richard Hannon sends two runners on the 774-mile round trip up to Hamilton and that doesn’t happen too often. Sean Quinlan is the jockey to follow at Cartmel, we’ve selected a 12/1 tip for Royal Ascot and some well drawn horses at Beverley. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Follow Sean Quinlan at Cartmel

Jockey Sean Quinlan has a 60 per cent strike-rate at Cartmel so far this season, with three winners from his six rides. He is also in good form at the moment and has a solid book of rides on Wednesday. Justlikefire has finished second in two of his last three starts and should be in the mix once again.

Evenwood Sonofagun bounced back to form with victory at Cartmel on Monday and another big run could be on the cards. Obviously there’s a chance the run could come to soon but a 7lb penalty shouldn’t prove to be too big an obstacle.

Richard Hannon sends two runners to Hamilton

Richard Hannon has only had nine previous runners at Hamilton, three of which managed to win. Jaijai represents him in the opener but he will need to improve on his debut performance. Too keen in the early stages, his finishing effort suffered as a result.

Handicap debutante Light Dreamer was a narrow second over 7f on her first start at Kempton but has disappointed in two starts since. The switch to handicaps should make a big difference and an opening mark of 74 looks workable on the evidence of her debut.

Beverley draw bias

A low draw is a huge advantage at Beverley, especially over shorter trips, so we’ve selected a couple of horses who are well set to go close on Wednesday. Penny Arcade was fourth on debut and improved to finish second at Thirsk earlier this month. A similar effort should be enough.

Thornaby Pearl was last seen finishing third in a handicap at Hamilton earlier this month and he was beaten by less than a length that day. Running off the same mark here, he is drawn in stall four and should be bang in the mix once again.

King Charles III Stakes tip

Three-year-old’s don’t have an amazing record in this race but Aidan O’Brien’s Mission Central could buck the trend. He was a useful yet slightly inconsistent two-year-old but has made an excellent start to the new campaign. There should be more to come and he’s ready for the step back up in grade.
