3:10 Ascot – Bedouin’s Story – 1pt win @ 13/2
It was very hard not to be impressed by BEDOUIN’S STORY when he bolted up at York in July and his subsequent second off a 7lb higher mark around Chelmsford was even more impressive when you consider the amount of ground he had to make into a pace that wasn’t collapsing. Dropping back in trip should aid his cause, especially on this more testing surface, and despite another 2lbs being added to his rating, I think the best is yet to come from a horse who remains unexposed over 7f on soft.
4:50 Ascot – Camacho Chief – 1pt win @ 10/1
CAMACHO CHIEF was selected in this column for last week’s abandoned Haydock meeting and I’m happy to go in again despite the different track. This speedy 4-year-old has all the hallmarks of a horse to act well in a big field at Ascot, as he travels powerfully, has a good change of gear and wants to be covered up behind a proper gallop. The latter should materialise here and if he doesn’t overdo it in the travelling stakes (can be keen), he could outclass this lot now returned to a 0-95.
7:30 Wolverhampton – Intisaab – 1pt win @ 5/1
I was planning on having a nice bet on INSTISAAB around the 7/1 mark but that price disappeared so a single point will have to do! This is the third time in succession that I’ll be backing O’Meara’s charge but now that he’s running in a Class 3 for the first time in God knows how long, it could finally pay off. He’s obviously well-treated, shaped nicely the last twice and has the benefit of Cieren Fallon removing what is effectively a free 3lbs. Over a C&D where he’s 1-1, only misfortune should keep him out of the frame.
