The Cheltenham Festival has come to an end but the Saturday of Cheltenham week is always a cracker it its own right. It’s Midlands National day at Uttoxeter, their biggest day of the year, with able support from the Silver Plate meeting at Kempton filling out the ITV Racing coverage on the afternoon.
A busy afternoon of free horse racing tips is rounded out with Fontwell and Newcastle as well as Wexford and Thurles in Ireland. There is also an evening card at Wolverhampton to round out the day.
This trainer making a 568-mile round trip to Uttoxeter on Saturday has a 17% strike rate at the track with runners in chases which has produced a level stakes profit of +£22.58. Their runner on Saturday is in a chase which makes the horse all the more interesting.
The step up to marathon distances for the first time proved a big plus for Mighty Thunder. He absolutely routed the Edinburgh National field at the start of February, running out a twenty length winner. He’s up ten pounds for this assignment but that may still be on the light side given the visual impression he made.
That was only his fourth career start over fences so there should still be some room for progression from him as he gains more experience. An eight-year-old entering the peak of his career, if the combination of tongue strap and cheekpieces work as well again, he looks to have strong each way claims to this famous prize. As mentioned above, Lucinda Russell does well with her chasers at this track so sending him her just adds to the intrigue.
