Trainer sends sole Hamilton representative on 740-mile Monday round trip

Hamilton Racecourse

Monday’s racing comes from five venues, with two afternoon jumps meetings from Newton Abbot and Roscommon. We also have flat action, with Hamilton, Bath and an evening meeting from Newcastle on the agenda. We’ll have horse racing tips for all the action, including a NAP of the Day.

Perhaps one of the most interesting statistics from Monday’s racing comes from Hamilton. Upper Lambourn-based trainer Archie Watson sends just one runner to Hamilton on Monday, a huge 740-mile round trip. Watson doesn’t send his runners there for the scenery and in the last five years, seven of his 25 Hamilton runners have scored.

A 28% strike-rate is not to be scoffed at, and it’s the sole Monday ride for Brodie Hampson too. You can find out all the details about this runner below!

4.50 Hamilton – St Andrews Ambulance Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap

The final race of the day is a six-furlong amateur jockeys’ handicap and Letmestopyouthere bids to give both Watson and Hampson a worthwhile trip up north. He’s without a win since August 2018, but recent evidence has suggested he can make his presence felt here.

In fact, two of his four victories have been under amateur handling, which is an interesting statistic to note. He’s been absent since December 2020 but in his last four starts, he’s placed on four occasions, including a narrow defeat at Lingfield off a two-pound higher rating.

On that most recent start at Southwell, he found just one too strong, pulling clear from the third. He makes his return off the same lowly rating of 52 and it’s very unlikely that this mark will stop him if he turns up on a going day. The rain certainly won’t dampen his spirits either, as he’s totally ground versatile.

His record after breaks of 50 days or more reads 223623, which bodes extremely well, and any positive market signs should be very much noted.
