Trainer boasting a huge £95.71 profit at Haydock has just one Saturday runner

Saturday’s racing comes from seven venues, so it’s certainly a super Saturday! The ITV Racing comes from Sandown and Haydock, with the former hosting the Group 1 Eclipse. It’s a select field, but the quality is evident and it promises to be a fascinating spectacle.

Aside from the ITV Racing, there are also meetings at Leicester, Naas, Beverley, Bellewstown and Carlisle. We’ll have horse racing tips for all seven meetings, including the ultra-competitive Old Newton Cup handicap.

While looking through the racing at Haydock, the incredible record of Tom Dascombe on Merseyside stuck out like a sore thumb. From 342 runners at the venue in the last five years, he’s had 54 winners. That 16% strike-rate equates to an enormous level stakes profit of £95.71 and he has just one runner there on Saturday. At 16-1, they’re more than worth a secondary glance.

It’s still very early days for GIFTED RULER, who has hit the racetrack on just six occasions. A progressive juvenile, he wasn’t beaten far in Listed company, but was sighted on just a pair of occasions last year.

Well beaten on return at Lingfield, he did build on that performance, finishing second at Newmarket in today’s grade. Beaten just a short-head off a mark of 93, he wouldn’t be seen again for 350 days, making another belated reappearance at York last time.

He was well beaten that day, but given his overall profile, he was entitled to have needed the run. He should be a different proposition today and is now two pounds lower in the handicap. His sole victory thus far also came at Haydock, so he should relish a return to this venue under Richard Kingscote.

The forecast rain is in his favour too, as his career-best efforts have come on softer ground. Given Dascombe’s incredible record here, and all the positives to Gifted Ruler’s chances, he needs serious consideration at each-way odds.
