Sunday’s ITV Outsiders: 40-1 chance can spring a Surrey National surprise 😲

Lingfield Racecourse, Lillington and Tom Scudamore

With heavy ground at Lingfield on Sunday, there could be a couple of surprises on ITV Racing. Sadly there are only two races with sufficient runners to provide us with at least three places so there are only two outsiders for the action. Thurles is also on ITV with Warwick the final card on the day and we will have horse racing tips at all three.

1.20 Lingfield – Winter Million Novices’ Hurdle

Blade Runner is the wide outsider in this novice hurdle but with three places available, he really shouldn’t be as big as this. Nibbled at in the market ahead of his debut for this yard at Plumpton, he was outpaced coming down the hill. He was not knocked about over that shorter trip, the return to three miles looks a plus.

He was a point winner in Ireland before being bought for £75,000, a fair price tag for this yard. Third on his point debut, he finished his race off well so stamina looks his strong suit. The fourth has won since and the fifth has been second while the winner ran to an RPR of 125 on his hurdles debut. If a slog is what he wants, then this should be perfect for him.

3.35 Lingfield – racehorselotto.com Surrey National Handicap Chase

It’s hard to trust Seaston Spirit completely given his Jekyll and Hyde profile but he is back below his last winning mark. That came in the 2021 Sussex National last January from three pounds higher than he finds himself now.

He has not run as badly as form of P8P would suggest this season. He was too canny for a ten-pound claimer first time up, travelled well in the London National on his second start before fading up the hill. That Sandown contest is a far deeper race than this and then in his repeat bid at the Sussex National, he was stopped in his tracks by a faller at halfway when still well there.

A winner on heavy ground here on his only prior visit to Lingfield, if he travels as well as he did at Sandown he would hold big claims. That is the only time that Sam Twiston-Davies has ridden him so it is interesting that he is back in the plate again.
