Saturday’s angles: Group 1 double, outsiders to follow and horses for courses
O'Brien/Appleby Group 1 Win Double
Two strongly fancied horses backed together in a double to increase potential returns.

Aidan O’Brien and Charlie Appleby have won the last two renewals of the Cheveley Park and the Middle Park respectively so we’ve put combined their representatives this year into a double. There are three outsiders who catch the eye at big prices, including a 20/1 shot in the Cambridgeshire, and we’ve also selected two runners with proven records at the respective courses on Saturday. O’Brien/Appleby Group 1 double
Aidan O’Brien has dominated the Cheveley Park Stakes in recent years and it has been a similar story in the Middle Park with Charlie Appleby, who has landed the last two renewals. With both top trainer’s aiming for a hat-trick this year, we’ve combined their best chances into a double.
Sun Goddess (13/8, bet365) looks very difficult to oppose and it’s a surprise to see this much value in her price. She has developed into a top-class filly and was victorious by over six lengths in the Moyglare Stud Stakes earlier this month. A similar effort would ensure that she lands a third Group 1 success.
Inner City Blues (13/8, bet365) was a comfortable winner on debut at York in June, finishing two lengths clear of the the runner-up, and he went on to land a Group 2 on his next start. It’s hard to know what to make of the form, as there were only three runners, but he’s clearly a talented colt.
ITV Outsiders
Zephyra (14/1, bet365) has finished second on all three of her starts to date and it’s easy to make the case that she will thrive now tackling handicaps. Marco Botti’s filly was only a neck behind the winner on her penultimate start and should be competitive off a mark of 77 here.
Fandom (16/1, bet365) was a good third in a couple of decent 5f handicaps at Ascot earlier on in the season and he looks well treated now down to a 2lb lower mark here.
Thunder Run (20/1, Boylesports) represents the Karl Burke yard and he has won the last two renewals of this race with horses carrying big weights. This horse could well follow suit.
Horses for courses
King Of Light is unbeaten in two previous starts at Haydock and the most recent of those successes came in this race last year. His current mark is just 3lb higher than when winning at Windsor in June.
Spanish Voice is also 2/2 here at Newmarket and the handicapper has responded to his below-par effort last time with a 1lb drop in the weights, so it would be dangerous to rule out a big run.
