Another day closer to the Cheltenham Festival and there is an excellent card in prospect at Doncaster on Wednesday. Paddy Brennan has had seven winners in his last twenty-one rides, a flying 33% strike rate. He heads to the Yorkshire track for just a single ride on Wednesday, a course that always makes the ears prick up when he visits.
Doncaster has been a happy hunting ground for Brennan. A 19% strike rate at the track in his career for a level stakes profit of £74.33. He has a strike rate of 27% when just chases are taken into consideration for a +£41.88 and it’s a chaser that he heads north for.
The entire Doncaster card on Wednesday is being sponsored by Virgin Bet. You can find all our free horse racing tips for that card as well as the meetings at Southwell, Ludlow, Punchestown and Kempton on the links.
2.20 Doncaster – Virgin Bet Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase
Ocean Cove looks to have solid each way claims to this Virgin Bet sponsored prize on Wednesday. He has been given a wind op since last seen in action, his most recent starts looking a shade disappointing when it comes to a finishing effort from him, so that has to be of interest.
He is a strong stayer, his best run over fences coming when chasing home Springfield Fox at Exeter at this time last year. That rival would be sent off just 7-1 at the Cheltenham Festival the following month. Ocean Cove is an adaptable type in terms of ground, a winner on both good and soft so he shouldn’t mind what the weather does.
As mentioned in the opening, Paddy Brennan is in flying form of late, knocking in seven winners from his last twenty-one rides. Five of those have come for Fergal O’Brien who trains Ocean Cove, the pair enjoying a huge season. Ocean Cove will need to step up on his runs this season but this may just be the time he can.
