Owen’s Outsider: 20-1 tip for Saturday’s ITV racing

Owen's Outsiders

Saturday’s racing comes from six venues, with Ascot being the feature meeting. They host the Group 1 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes, with Love taking on the Derby winner Adayar in a clash of the generations. There is also racing from Newcastle, Gowran Park, Newmarket, Salisbury and York, with the latter also being on ITV Racing.

We’ll have horse racing tips for all six, but as always, I’m going fishing for a big one! Using my classic betting angles, as outlined in my Betting Masterclass piece, I’ve found a horse who could out-run his odds at a huge price. Find all the details and analysis below!

3.00 Ascot – Moet & Chandon International Stakes

A twenty-two runner handicap, it’s like being back at Royal Ascot! He’s perhaps not an “outsider” given his position in the market, but I was expecting Cliffs Of Capri (20-1) to be a lot shorter than this price, so he has to be included.

He was in my outsiders column a few weeks ago at Newmarket, where I thought a drop back to seven furlongs would pay dividends. Racing on the far side, the place you didn’t want to be, he was ridden along three furlongs from home and looked to be going nowhere. Sprouting wings in the final furlong, he soared home into a never-nearer seventh.

Doing best of those on the far side, that effort can be significantly upgraded in my eyes. He’s now two pounds lower despite that and returns to a venue he loves. He was placed twice over course and distance last summer, including a second in this race off two pounds higher. The race will play out perfectly for his closing style and at 20-1, he’s simply too big of a price.
