New myracing tipster Joe Casey attacks Kelso with 69-1 accumulator

Kelso Racecourse

Despite our proximity in the calendar to Cheltenham, Saturday still offers an intriguing exhibition of racing, with ITV races from Kelso, Doncaster and Newbury. The Scottish track will be the focus of my attention, with three standout chances there forming a 69-1 accumulator.

1.30 Kelso

My Drogo looks every inch a chaser in the making but his hurdles career so far has been very impressive. After winning a maiden hurdle at Newbury in November, he took a huge leap forward just three weeks later, winning the Supreme Trial at Ascot in good style.

He was a much sharper jumper that day and the third, Soaring Glory, has since won the Betfair Hurdle so the form appears very strong. The step up in trip here will no doubt suit Dan Skelton’s charge and he has a very solid chance of rewarding his trainer’s decision to sidestep Cheltenham with this progressive six-year-old.

2.40 Kelso

Nicky Alexander’s stable star Lake View Lad provided a career best performance in December when fighting off Santini, Native River and Frodon to win the Many Clouds at Aintree.

Despite the omitted fences that day it was still a very impressive run and the eleven-year-old had an excuse for the poor showing last time out in the Cotswold Chase. He has never won going right handed and this return to a left handed track will show him in the best possible light.

This is also his ideal trip, something that cannot be said for some of his rivals, and he looks primed to go close here.

3.15 Kelso

The Shunter has been transformed since transferring to Emmett Mullins, and the Irish trainer landed a gamble with him in the Greatwood at Cheltenham’s November meeting last time he ventured to these shores.

He has only been raised seven pounds for that run and that may not be enough to stop him. He was third in a good handicap when having a spin over fences at the Dublin Racing Festival and that showed he is in as good nick as ever. This could again be a case of the English handicapper unable to reign in a progressive Irish hurdler.
