myracing Horse Racing Syndicate Now Open

Following the successful launch of our myracing.com greyhound syndicate, we’re excited to announce we’ve paired up with leading horse racing syndicate EPDS Racing to launch a brand new horse racing syndicate!

The Horse

We have worked long and hard with EPDS to select our first syndicate horse, and we have selected Lady Volante as our debut syndicate horse on a lease deal. A three year old Teofilo filly, she was originally a €20,000 purchase trained by P J Prendergast, with an opening mark of 72. Over the winter, she was trained by David Evans, seeing her mark drop to 54, but is now trained by Lucinda Egerton.

Her debut run for Lucinda on the 4th of May saw her finish a close third at big odds behind horses rated 80 and 70, making her current mark of 60 look extremely attractive. We expect to run her on the turf through summer following a short break. Her pedigree – her dam is a half sister to Cleofila, rated in the 90s – and previous Irish form both suggest she can win off this mark under Lucinda’s care. She also looks to handle her racing well, so we should be set for plenty of visits to the racetrack!

The initial lease is set to run until November, at which point we will re-evaluate and either keep going with Lady Volante or swapping to a promising jumps horse on a similar lease deal.

The Syndicate

We want horse racing ownership to be accessible to all, so access to the myracing & EPDS Syndicate is available for just £25 per month per person, or £250 per year if paid in advance.

Initially, we are opening to just 100 members for our first horse, and membership will run from the 1st of June for one full year, after which time each member will be asked if they wish to renew. There are a number of benefits to joining the syndicate:

  • Opportunity to go to the races as an owner
  • Equal share of prize money with all other owners in the syndicate
  • Syndicate certificate confirming ownership in Lady Volante
  • Detailed race previews from our tipsters covering every runner in the race
  • Weekly email with information on all EPDS owned horses

Each time Lady Volante runs, members will be contacted by email and any members who wish to visit the track as an owner will be entered into a ballot, with Owners & Trainers tickets distributed fairly among applicants. Prize money will be distributed yearly, or can be donated to charity, or can be used to pay off some/all of future subscription payments.

Interested?

Just email contact@myracing.com with the email subject “Syndicate” and we will add you to our waiting list with full information to be sent out later this week!

About EPDS Racing

Founded by avid horse racing fan John Powell, EPDS Racing now have a team of 18 horses in training across the UK and France. 2017 was an excellent year for EPDS, with the highlight definitely being the fifth place finish for Ami Desbois in the Cheltenham Festival Albert Bartlett, and with this 143 rating over hurdles (4 wins, 3 seconds and 2 thirds from just 11 starts) he promises to be an exciting chaser.

EPDS are keen to support the racing community, and donate £100 a month to charity among other things. We have utilised their extensive knowledge and network of contacts to find Lady Volante, and they will be on hand to provide help and information as we continue.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • Will I get inside information by being part of the syndicate?

No. The trainer will provide honest opinions on the horse but at the end of the day, they are just opinions and he/she may be wrong. The syndicate is designed to get people involved in owning a race horse and visiting racecourses as an owner.

  • Will the syndicate always remain limited to 100 people?

No, this just a starting figure and our hope is to open up the syndicate to more people in the future. Any extra subscriptions would be used to fund the purchase and training of extra syndicate horses, which all members (new and current) would gain a share in. For example, if we purchased a new horse, your cost per month would stay the same, but you’d have 0.25% of each horse rather than 0.5% of one horse.

  • What happens if I join and want to leave?

Memberships are an agreement to join the syndicate for one year, at which time you will be asked if you want to continue or to leave. You are welcome to leave the syndicate at any time throughout the year, but you will lose any privileges you gained through joining the syndicate and forfeit any share of prize money you have earned so far.

  • What will happen to the horse if he is unable to keep racing?

Obviously, the welfare of the horse is at the forefront of our minds, as is her future well being. EPDS have an excellent record of looking after ex-syndicate horses after they have retired – see their Retired Horses page for more information and will find a home for the horse after racing.

  • What silks will the jockey wear?

The jockey will wear the classic EPDS silks, as the syndicate is being managed and run by EPDS. If this is a success we may have our own silks in future, so watch this space!

  • What does leasing a horse mean?

We are going to lease our first horse, which means that – rather than owning the horse – we are essentially borrowing the right to run the horse under our ownership for a set amount of time. Once this time period has elapsed, the horse will return to the owner, and we will look to continue the syndicate with a different horse.
