Irish raider at Ayr

Up and coming Irish trainer Robson De Aguiar sends one horse to Ayr on Monday in the form of Fly Smartly in the opening 6f maiden for fillies (1.45). The daughter of Mehmas cost €135,000 and showed plenty of zest over 5f on debut at Naas before being beaten only 2.5l at the Curragh when upped to 7f on latest. This is the yard’s first runner at the track and given there was no support for her in the market on her first two outings, it will be very interesting if the money comes here.

Barry Connell runner worth market check at Ballinrobe

From the family of Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Native River, Tiffany Case is worth a mark check on her second career start in a weak enough 2m maiden hurdle at Ballinrobe (5.57). She ran okay for a good way behind the reopposing How’s Ellie on debut at the track recently and wasn’t knocked about. Any market support could prove significant.

Red-hot jockey bidding for third win in five years

Young up and coming rider Dan King, who won both the Galway Plate and Galway Hurdle of late, has won the 2m handicap hurdle (6.27) twice in the last four years. He will take the ride on Mark Molloy’s Koeur A Prendre, who has finished runner-up on his last two outings, on latest when second of 14 in a 2m4f handicap hurdle at Killarney, pulling clear of remainder. Big chance up 2lb.

Haggas well worth watching at Ayr

William Haggas has a brilliant 33 per cent return at Ayr in the last five years so his two runners have to be worth watching. In the 1.45, Next Of Kin showed plenty on debut and should go well, while Lorca’s Waltz could be lurking off a lovely mark in a following handicap.
