Cartmel trainer stat to keep onside

Lizzie Quinlan’s profit to a £1 level stake when having only one runner on the card over hurdles is £70.50 and she will run Rauzan in the 2m6f handicap hurdle at Cartmel (3.10). This runner is likely to be a big price too. The son of Australia is a frustrating type but is certainly well treated now and placed in a much better race than this at Kelso last season. He has been out of form but this is just his second outing since having a breathing operation and it will be interesting if the money comes.

Irish trainer heads across to Chepstow

Ciaran Murphy will send two runners to Chepstow on Monday and the first of them is Ischgl in the 6f maiden (2.20) under Rossa Ryan. He has hit the frame in all four outings in maiden company and was simply outclassed in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot. A repeat of his recent third at Galway when last seen might well be enough to win a race of this nature and the drop in trip is fine.

Rossa will also take the ride on Murphy’s Staywitherjohnny in the closing 1m2f handicap (5.45). The filly has few miles on the clock for a 4yo and looks feasibly treated on the pick of her Irish form. She had a spin over hurdles when last seen and should be competitive at this level.

Patrick Mullins takes up Flat ride at Epsom Downs

Champion Irish amateur jockey Patrick Mullins takes the ride on George Baker’s Gordon Grey in the 1m4f amateurs’ derby at Epsom (3.35). It’s a race he won in both 2013 and 2015, and this boy won a four-timer when scoring over C&D in August on his last start for his former yard.
