Monday racing: £880,000 purchase, Irish raiders, British raider and one runner for Ballydoyle

It’s an action-packed day of racing on Monday and Adrian Wall has highlighted some interesting facts, including Ryan Moore’s sole ride of the day aboard an £880,000 purchase.

£880,000 purchase ready to strike on second start

Ryan Moore only has one ride on Monday and that is aboard George Scott’s Mrair (3.52 Lingfield) in the 6f novice. This son of Mehmas cost £880,000 at the breeze-ups and he ran a fine race on debut when second in a 6f novice at Newmarket, making good headway late on after a tardy start. He should be well up to landing this.

Irish raiders at Wolverhampton

John McConnell sends two horses to Wolverhampton and the first of those is Alex Belardo (7.00) in the 1m1f handicap. The gelding has won only once from 24 tries, and was last seen finishing sixth at Dundalk but he has claims on the pick of his form.

She’s A Gift (8.30) is McConnell’s other runner in the 5f classified race. She is a longstanding maiden who was well behind at Naas last month and she will need to improve despite dropping into this grade on her tapeta debut.

Aidan O’Brien sends one runner to Gowran

Just the one horse for Ballydoyle at Gowran and that’s River Ara (3.09) in the extended 1m1f handicap. The former Leopardstown nursery winner over the mile hasn’t shown much in a couple of starts this year but this is a drop in grade and better can be expected now.

British raider aims for valuable pot at Gowran

Richard Hannon sends a rare runner to Ireland in the form of Bunyola Bay (3.44) for the valuable Gowran Classic. He won a five-runner 7f novice at Doncaster on his second start and could find more improvement stepping up in trip.

Willie Mullins and Paul Townend bidding for five-timer at Listowel

Willie and Paul have won the 2m3f chase at Listowel the last four years on the bounce and last year’s winner Blood Destiny (4.07) should take all the beating again.
